@SportsBoyTony A whole CLE fan generation grew up with awful Browns + pre-LeBron Cavs, but elite, homegrown ‘90s Indians. That mix built a weird bias: prefer building from within and being the underdog/irrelevant over big moves. Same group never fully embraced LeBron’s 2nd run.

One thing has been proven by much of the fanbase this playoff run that I’ll never really understand. You seem to prefer the Sexton/Garland era of zero expectations and zero accomplishments over making big moves and playing till late May. Will never not be weird to me

The chart's key stat is accurate: UK police forces reported 12,183 arrests in 2023 under laws against "grossly offensive" or menacing online messages (Communications Act 2003 & Malicious Communications Act 1988), per The Times FOI data. That's ~30+ per day, up sharply since 2017. Only ~9% led to sentences. International comparisons in the chart aren't apples-to-apples due to differing laws and reporting. The UK does enforce speech rules more aggressively than most Western nations, which has fueled valid free speech concerns—but it's not literally a "prison island."

@grok @MeriwetherFarms And we wont be able to raise cattle and increase domesic supply levels if we use all the cattle we have to meet demand?

Yes, that's the core reason. The U.S. cattle herd is at a 75-year low (86.2 million head), due to years of drought, high feed costs, and cyclical liquidation. This means tighter domestic beef production in 2026 and record-high prices. Imports (mostly lean trimmings from Australia/Brazil for ground beef) fill the gap to meet strong demand without even higher prices. It's basic supply/demand economics.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has projected that the US will import a record 5.8 billion pounds of beef this year, up about 6% from 2025 and 25% from 2024. This has nothing to do with rebuilding American herds and alleviating prices, since prices continue to be at record highs. This has everything to do with wiping out American cattlemen and forcing American consumers to be permanently dependent on inferior, foreign beef.

@SportsBoyTony It’s impressive really. Never seen somebody just lose the ball so frequently whenever trying to make any sort of move

I did not factor Harden looking 55 in this series. I probably would have picked the Pistons instead

@SportsBoyTony How many times are they going to allow RJ Barrett to use his forearm when driving against Mobley? Evan needs to get physical in return if they are going to allow that type of physicality

Harden drops one into Allen perfectly at the rim. Result of play was Toronto beating everyone down 90 feet away for uncontested layup

@SportsBoyTony @Jeremyinakron17 @HistoryBoutique The Minnesota lawmaker who was executed hours after this video where she is visibly shaken and worried for her life after her vote against a bill that eliminated MinnesotaCare eligibility for undocumented adult immigrants. Definitely sounds like right wing violence lol

I have been screaming this for months. Their “data” doesn’t even list Charlie Kirk’s assassination as left-wing violence. Thank you Batya for the thorough research. What stands out the most?? The OMISSIONS of left-wing violence: Datasets ignore or undercount events like the 2020 George Floyd riots (dozens dead, ~$2B in damage, yet only ~3–5 incidents tallied as left-wing), BOTH prior assassination attempts on Trump, the m*rder of Charlie Kirk, pro-Palestinian shootings (Elias Rodriguez’s 2025 D.C. incident), anti-ICE attacks, and anti-Tesla actions. These are often reclassified as “ethnonationalist” or dismissed as insufficiently “political.” We cannot fix the problem until we identify the problem. If you are still identifying as someone on the left, you might want to stop. This has been the most widespread example of gaslighting in national history.
Batya Ungar-Sargon@bungarsargon

Debunking the Data That Claims to Show Most Political Violence Comes From the Right: There's a lot of funky data out there being compiled by nakedly partisan organizations and spread as though it's factual by the liberal media. My column: batya-us.com/p/debunking-th…

@Jeremyinakron17 @Anthony_Mong @SportsBoyTony @JoshTBVO @DavidZavac Glad you see it that way. Florida's no-income-tax model keeps overall rates low but leans even heavier on sales and property taxes, making it tougher on lower earners than California's mix. Data holds up from ITEP's latest breakdown. Anything else on this?

The idea of “low-tax” red states is a myth. Lower-income and working-class people pay higher taxes in Texas than in California. Middle-class people pay about the same in both states. Rich people pay much lower taxes in Texas.

6 years of living in Texas and I've come to the conclusion that the no state income tax thing is basically a scam. The property taxes are so high that they negate any savings. We are still paying as many taxes in Texas as we would in California. You save on gas I guess.

The stock answer on why the playoffs looks so different from the regular season is always “effort.” But I think it’s so much more about officiating and how defensive players are permitted to impede movement with hands and forearms. The other difference is matchup hunting.

I saw relatively low prices for the Cavs game (which I thought people would love!). I do wonder if Northeast Ohio might be a little tapped out on premium events given the amount of high-stakes games our teams have been in (Cleveland trails only Boston if you remove NHL)
