It will be a great day when our schools get all the money they need and the airforce has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber

Boys and girls around the region are going back to @UNRWA schools except in #Gaza. More than 600,000 children there are deeply traumatized, living in the rubble. They continue to be deprived of learning + schooling. Half of them used to be in UNRWA schools. The longer children stay out of school, the higher the risk of a lost generation, fueling resentment & extremism. In Gaza, more than 7️⃣0️⃣ % of our schools are destroyed or damaged. The vast majority of our schools are now overcrowded shelters with hundreds of thousands of displaced families. They cannot be used for learning. With no ceasefire, children are likely to fall prey to exploitation including child labour and recruitment into armed groups. We have seen this way too often in conflicts around the world, let’s not repeat it in Gaza. A ceasefire is a win for all: it will allow respite for civilians, the release of the hostages + a flow of much needed basic supplies including for learning. #BackToSchool

Yet another example of school closures due to the climate crisis - and once again students & communities who are the least responsible for the crisis suffer the most. We are running out of time #SDG4 #Teach4ThePlanet #JustTransition @eduint

Peaceful protest is a human right. Freedom of speech is a human right. Freedom of expression is a human right. Universities should respect these rights.

Unimaginable loss. Our world in 2023. Our world in 2024. @msalem66 from @reuters photo wins @WorldPressPhoto of the Year. It shows Inas Abu Maamar (36) cradling the body of her niece Saly (5) who was killed, along with her mother and sister, when an Israeli missile struck their home, in Khan Younis, Gaza. Unimaginable loss, repeated over and over.

Governments that fail to pay their UN dues are helping child rights abusers evade scrutiny. Due to lack of funds, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has had to cancel upcoming meetings. @BedeOnKidRights explains the impact. hrw.org/news/2024/04/0…
