People in #Gaza are increasingly suffering from skin infections due to the surge in pests, including rats, lice, fleas, and mites.  UNRWA health teams are treating around 40% of what is now thousands of cases - usually this would be easily managed with simple remedies but they are not available. In Gaza basic medicines are in short supply and many children are left without the treatment they need. Aid at scale needs to be allowed into Gaza, or the situation is likely to deteriorate further.  #UNRWAworks

Our latest on the situation in 📍#Lebanon: 🔹The humanitarian situation in Lebanon remains fragile and unpredictable, with a continued risk of conflict escalation and military operations in the south of the country. 🔹By 5 May, a total of 1,132 displaced people were registered in the two UNRWA emergency shelters. This represents an increase from 951 people recorded in the previous week and follows the issuance of evacuation orders during the period. 🔹 By 5 May, all 60 UNRWA schools were operational, with 38 offering in-person learning and 22 operating remotely. Rats bite children in the night in their tents while they sleep. In #Gaza, an already vulnerable population is at much higher risk of  disease due to the displacement, overcrowded tents, lack of clean water, and broken sanitation systems. UNRWA is working closely with @WHO and local partners to track the rise of skin infections and risks of disease. More tents, insecticides, and medications are urgently needed inside Gaza. #UNRWAworks

In #Lebanon, UNRWA continues to provide essential primary healthcare to Palestine Refugees, including those displaced and affected by the ongoing instability. UNRWA delivers vaccinations, medications, and medical consultations in areas impacted by conflict and displacement, providing continued access to healthcare for the most vulnerable, particularly children, women, and older persons. #UNRWAworks

In #Gaza, reconstruction is urgently needed. Despite the ceasefire, hundreds of thousands of displaced people are still living in overcrowded make-shift sites, with nowhere else to go. Thousands of people continue to live in UNRWA buildings, where our teams supply clean water, sanitation staff maintain hygiene, and children engage in learning activities.  #UNRWAworks

UNRWA plays a vital role in protecting public health across #Gaza, particularly for those displaced  and living in shelters and tents. Amid rising cases of disease, UNRWA teams are implementing targeted interventions. These include the application of approved and safe pesticides, systematic waste removal, and community outreach to raise awareness of associated health risks. However, major challenges remain, especially a severe shortage of pesticides and equipment. In #Lebanon, UNRWA provides ready-to-eat food parcels and hot meals for displaced people in its two emergency shelters.   With support from partners, UNRWA has distributed 14,000 meals since the start of the conflict in March.   #UNRWAworks

Without good sanitation, people are at risk.  That’s why in #Gaza, UNRWA Sanitation Teams are on the ground confronting the worsening environmental and health crisis.  #UNRWAworks with regular spraying campaigns using safe pesticides, continuous cleaning and tackling sources of contamination, raising awareness among displaced communities on prevention measures, and distributing cleaning supplies.

In the occupied #WestBank, UNRWA continues to play a central role: over 4,000 Palestinian personnel provide education, healthcare, and other essential services for #Palestine Refugees. Notwithstanding ongoing restrictions, UNRWA has maintained uninterrupted operations. #UNRWAworks

Water is essential for life! Access to water in #Gaza is severely limited. Nearly 90% of the water and sanitation infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged. Our latest on the situation in 📍#Lebanon: 🔹 A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect at midnight on 16 April. On 23 April, US President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire would be extended for an additional three weeks, following a second high-level trilateral meeting between representatives of Israel, the United States and Lebanon. 🔹 UNRWA launched its emergency response in Lebanon on 4 March, operating two emergency shelters. 🔹 Three UNRWA schools that had previously been operating remotely resumed in-person classes following the ceasefire. Our latest on the situation in 📍#Gaza and the occupied #WestBank, including East Jerusalem: 🔹 UNRWA teams in the Gaza Strip continue to report increases in parasitic skin diseases such as scabies, in addition to chickenpox, deepening public health concerns. Documented cases tripled between January and March 2026. Like Elin, Palestine Refugee children across #Lebanon continue learning thanks to UNRWA. Whether in classrooms or remotely, all UNRWA schools operate despite the impact of the conflict. For many, returning to school means reconnecting with classmates, teachers and daily routines. On 20 April, the majority of UNRWA schools in Lebanon resumed in-person learning, restoring education as a source of stability in students’ daily lives. #UNRWAworks

In #Jordan, children and families continue to receive vaccines through UNRWA health centres — with coverage reaching nearly 99%. Across all 25 health centres, services continue every day, helping protect communities from preventable diseases. #WorldImmunizationWeek #UNRWAworks

In the #Gaza Strip, UNRWA is keeping children learning, in shelters and online. More than 65,000 children are taking in-person classes, while over 280,000 access UNRWA’s digital learning platforms where they are also able to take their exams.
