The tiny, antiquated press box at Alumni Field is about to get the makeover of the century. Jesuit has announced plans for a new state-of-the-art press box, to serve as a central hub for game-day operations and media coverage, elevating the experience for players, coaches, and spectators and a major enhancement to the school’s nationally recognized athletic program. The project is made possible through a leadership gift from Dr. Dennis Agliano ’60, one of Tampa’s leading otolaryngologists and a longtime steadfast supporter of Jesuit. Designed in Jesuit’s classic red-brick style, the project will include a new entry plaza and other enhancements that complement nearby campus landmarks such as the Antinori Center for the Arts and the Bell Tower. The back side of the press box will rise above the left field fence of the award-winning Hyer Family Park baseball facility, creating a striking visual connection between the athletic venues. Construction will begin in December, immediately following Jesuit’s football season (the Tigers, the 2021 State Champions, are the No. 1 seed in the Region playoffs). The facility will support multiple programs that use Alumni Field, including football, soccer, lacrosse, and track & field. “Dr. Agliano has been an extraordinary leader in support of the mission of Jesuit High School,” said school president Fr. Vincent Giacabazi, S.J. “His ongoing generosity impacts the lives of Jesuit’s students, demonstrates confidence in our work, and strengthens our ability to form future generations of young men in Tampa in the nearly 500-year tradition of Jesuit education.” With his most recent gift to the school, Dr. Agliano’s lifetime giving to Jesuit now exceeds $1 million. His past generosity has supported the school in many ways, including the naming of the Dr. Dennis S. Agliano Family Athletic Training Room in 2016. The new press box is the latest in a series of recent athletics upgrades at Jesuit, including the Chatterton ’05 Family Scoreboard, new RootZone 3D3 Astroturf, a refurbished track, and a new record board for track & field, cross country, and swimming. These projects elevate the school’s championship athletic program: Jesuit annually ranks No. 1 among all Tampa Bay-area boys athletic programs in the state’s all-sports rankings, and the Tigers have held the No. 1 statewide all-sports ranking in their classification for seven consecutive years. #AMDG #GoTigers
