@AnyesVIP @nickgiva1 Why? You want to go back to Danny Daian’s Core CPI? 😆 I’d rather have Yellen’s transitory inflation and Warsh / Bessent trimmed mean or whatever they adopt 😬

My guess as to why FinTwit is dying: we have split into tribes that talk past each other. There is a crypto tribe that is sold on the narrative that inflation is 200%/year and that only Bitcoin or Bert coin can save them from financial ruin. There is a gold-bug tribe that refuses to acknowledge the benefits of any other asset. There is a fiscal dominance tribe that sees the end of the world around every corner or tiny move in some irrelevant market. There is a (small) tribe that thinks all the above are full of shit. We have mutually blocked/muted each other to the extent that no conversation between us can happen. This has led to tribalism and the "my view, right or wrong" which makes any debate unlikely or even impossible. No civilized debate, no engagement. I mean, how many times can you engage with extremist maximalists?

It’s pretty logical cause if we manage to move the goalpost now and adopt truflation or even trimmed mean in January, it buys us enough time to reach mid-2027 when we get based figures which allow for rate cuts. Which brings us to widespread AI adoption which is gonna mess jobs data and is deflationary in the long term.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi pushed back on President Donald Trump’s proposal to charge a 20% fee on cargo moving through the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi said Trump was “absolutely right” that whoever secures safe passage through the waterway should be compensated, but argued that Iran, not the U.S., is the rightful guardian of the Strait. Araghchi said Iran has always protected the Strait and will continue to do so. He also joked that 20% was “too much,” adding that Iran would be “fair” if it were collecting compensation. Trump had announced that the U.S. would become the “Guardian of the Hormuz Strait” and begin charging the fee to cover the cost of securing navigation. He also said the process would begin immediately. At the same time, Trump said the U.S. would reinstate its blockade of Iranian ports near the Strait, with CENTCOM saying the move would resume Tuesday afternoon. Trump insisted the Strait is open and will remain open “with or without Iran.” The proposal quickly drew legal pushback. The International Maritime Organization told CNBC there is no legal basis for mandatory transit tolls on ships using an international strait, echoing earlier comments from Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The dispute adds another layer to already rising U.S.-Iran tensions. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil chokepoints, carrying roughly one-fifth of global oil shipments.

As the war in Iran escalates, it’s critical to remember the role Israel played in drawing us into this mess: Israel convinced Trump that assassinating the Ayatollah would result in a swift U.S. victory, similar to the removal of Maduro from Venezuela. Now, despite the obvious and concerning security and sovereignty implications, our own Congress is trying to merge our military w/ Israel: responsiblestatecraft.org/us-israel-inte…
Joe Kent@joekent16jan19

This week the Senate will vote to merge our military’s most sensitive & secretive capabilities with Israel. This merger is buried within the massive NDAA and they’re hoping you won’t notice. Merging our military with a foreign country is a treasonous betrayal of our sovereignty. Call your senators & tell them to vote no on the NDAA until the merger w/ Israel (section 219) is taken out. Tell them that we will never support merging our military with a foreign nation. The senate switchboard number is: (202) 224-3121.
