This guy is very weird in a really off-putting and sinister way. I can't believe any woman would agree to be in the same room with him - let alone let him go down on her and publicly report on her vagina "microbiome". He's giving serial killer.

@mattyglesias What’s the socioeconomic breakdown of this group of voters? Why have they switched? Seems like he just transformed some racial polarization into class polarization.

Great point. Why does Powell think he’s personally the lynchpin of Fed independence? Does he not think the other governors are up to the job?
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent@SecScottBessent

It is unusual for soon-to-be-former Fed Chair Jay Powell to stay on at the @federalreserve. For someone who speaks so often of norms, his unilateral decision to stay flies in the face of tradition. Kevin Warsh will bring about a new day at the Fed, with accountability, management, and sound policymaking in the lead.

The “high-trust customs” you’re mourning were a fiction. We know this because the curtain has been pulled back repeatedly: Wikileaks, the Podesta emails, the Twitter Files, the FISA disclosures. The diplomats and politicians shaking hands on camera were lying to each other, to allies, and to voters in private. Trump’s contribution is refusing the veneer. That’s not a degradation of trust. It’s the removal of a performance that was hiding the absence of trust. His relationships are more honest, more personal, and therefore more durable, because nobody has to wonder what he really thinks.

Trump's bullying only works (and only temporarily at that) because he's taking advantage of the high-trust customs and relationships established by more principled predecessors.

My guest today is Paul Tudor Jones (@ptj_official), one of the greatest macro traders of all time. He correctly predicted the 1987 stock market crash and shorted the Japanese bubble in 1990. For over 40 years, his flagship fund has had a negative correlation to the S&P 500. 100% of his returns are alpha. He says today's market has so many similarities to 2000, "the easiest bear market I've ever seen in my whole life." He makes the case for going long dollar-yen, why Bitcoin beats gold as an inflation hedge, and why he was wrong about Warren Buffett. But what I'll remember most from this conversation is Paul's zest for life. He's 71 and still wakes at 2:30 every morning to trade the London open. He works out for two hours a day. He walks with his wife every evening. He travels the country chasing peak spring and peak fall. He's so excited about the songs picked for his funeral that he wishes he could be there to hear them. Paul has lived five lifetimes in one. He's one of the most entertaining and interesting people I've met, and the conversation will leave you searching to be as passionate about what you do as he is about what he does. Enjoy! We should oppose the Trump administration's abuse of the law to intimidate and cripple private advocacy organizations they don't like. But what they say about the Southern Poverty Law Center (which I used to donate to) is, unfortunately, correct: It “long ago abandoned civil rights work and turned into a partisan smear machine.” Among the targets in its McCarthyite "Hate Watch" list are ordinary academic behavioral geneticists whose research challenges the blank slate. nytimes.com/2026/04/22/us/…

Deleted because Rufo has posted screenshots of several posts by Will Stancil that do endorse political violence. So yeah, I was wrong & I won't blame @grok. 🤣 Trump has said worse stuff, but people who hold themselves up as the good guys should be held to higher standards.

Incredible levels of trashy behavior. Now if you ask the admin for comment on a story, they'll delay you so they can give it to Fox News instead. Don't ask for comment, of course they'll attack the "fake news media." You can't win dealing with people with no ethical code.
Sam Stein@samstein

ATTENTION TO anyone in the WH press corps. We asked WH for comment this morning with a 1230 deadline. they asked us for a few more hours to track the story down. we were gracious about it. they then gave it to Fox News (which doesn't have nearly the same deets we do)

The most personally repellant man to occupy the White House in my lifetime, and it's not close. Passports represent the United States, not an individual. They are not objects meant to advance a personality cult or a president's narcissism. This is just the latest example of Trump trashing longstanding norms of behavior, and it sets a troubling precedent. And of course it provides still more ammo to people around the world who claim the Trump administration is falling into Dear Leader territory.

Permanent bear posting for engagement is amazing because it simply works all the time, regardless of the market regime. During 95% of the time when the stock market goes up, you can always call for a crash, and people will listen because the market has been going up and they're concerned it'll crash. During the 5% of the time when the stock market goes down, you can claim fame for finally being right (after likely being wrong for years). This is the reason why so many people do it. You can basically have zero knowledge about the market and still post and eventually get plenty of views and followers. The issue with being in a constant bearish state is that you will only eventually make money off the fear of retail investors. But it's highly unlikely that you will make money in the stock market when you're constantly betting against the market.
