I spent 20 years in the Indian Army. Left at the peak to build Heritage Pitara. Everyone thought I was crazy. Some days, I agree with them. But here's what I've learned: The scariest transitions build the most honest versions of who you are. I'm Aparna. Soldier. UN Peacekeeper. Founder. Entrepreneur. Royal Enfield Rider. I don't fit into one box because I was never meant to. This space is for: - Leadership earned, not given - Entrepreneurship without the glossy filters - Building what matters over what's easy - Life after leaving the uniform No theories. Just what works when the textbook answers don't. If you're building something hard, navigating a big transition, or refusing to pick just one identity: You're in the right place. Let's build. #Leadership #VeteranEntrepreneur #WomenInLeadership #HandloomIndia

From Lieutenant Colonel to Founder: Lieutenant Colonel: Title given. Founder: Title earned. Lieutenant Colonel: Rank spoke before I did. Founder: Results speak. Eventually. Lieutenant Colonel: 20 years to earn. Founder: Every day proves or disproves. Different title. Same requirement: Show up worthy of it. What identity shift did you have to earn? #Identity #Transition #HeritagePitara

@tasornp Engagement = Attention. Content = Authority. Create first. Engage to amplify, not replace.

Don’t fall into the reply guy trap. I’ve seen many people rely on engagement as their main growth strategy. It might grow your audience fast. But it doesn’t last. Focus on high quality content first. Then use engagement to amplify it. That’s how you attract the right audience without spending hours commenting.

@ItsAndraz It does sound like common sense. I think it’s “unpopular” because most people prioritize tools over discipline.

Unpopular opinion: If I had to pick between AI and being in shape for the impact on my business, I would pick being in shape any day of the week.

@thought_harbor Very relevant for a founder. At Heritage Pitara, whenever we set clear monthly goals like onboarding a certain number of artisans or launching a new collection the team aligns and execution becomes focused. Writing it down turns intent into action.

If you do not know where you are going, you will end up nowhere. Write down exactly what you want to achieve this month. A goal that is not written down is just a wish.

@Dwriteway A bit of belief beyond logic helps. But success comes from grounded conviction, where optimism meets reality and execution.

When "founder" finally felt real: Not after first sale. Not after first profit. After first time an artisan introduced me to another weaver: "This is Aparna. She pays fairly. On time. You can trust her." That introduction = founder title earned. Not self declared. Artisan validated. #EarnedRespect #TrustBuilt #FounderMoment

First networking event as "founder": Person: "What do you do?" Me: "I... uh... I left the Army and now I work with artisans to sell handloom online but it's really about fair wages and……." Person: walked away Later learned: Clarity = credibility. "I run Heritage Pitara. We pay artisans fairly." That's the pitch. #Clarity #Pitch #HeritagePitara

Absolutely relatable. After two decades in a stable job, when I chose to build Heritage Pitara, the people who cared for me were concerned, and rightly so. They saw risk. I saw purpose. You can respect their perspective, and still choose your own path. Because at some point, you have to build the life that feels true to you.
Dylan Madden@Dylanmadden

Your family wants you to be safe. They'll push you toward a job with benefits. A predictable income. A path they understand. They're not trying to trap you. They just can't see what they've never seen. But their comfort is not your ceiling. You can love them and still choose differently. You can respect where they came from and still go somewhere they've never been. At some point you'll have to decide whose life you're building. Theirs or yours.

Honestly, I feel like a beginner again. Learning what good scientific research is about and how to build a lab that creates impact. Just like my first time building a startup in my 20s, I'm making mistakes, reflecting, iterating - all of it while shipping. It's so refreshing and fun. The key difference from my startup days v/s now is that I feel (for good or bad) there are more eyes on me, so I have to keep reminding myself that it's okay to fail publicly occasionally as long as each iteration is better than the previous one. Reputation, social image, legacy - all these are mental prisons and devices of fear. What matters ultimately is if you're having fun playing at the edge of your capabilities, which prevents things from either becoming boring or impossible. And that's what I keep recalibrating to.

@foundr You test and validate the business while building. And in that process, the business quietly builds you, your judgment, resilience, and clarity.

To grow faster, shorten the time between action and feedback. Don’t wait for quarterly reviews. Review weekly. Don’t wait for perfect data. Look at real time data.

Most overthinking is the brain trying to avoid responsibility. As long as you’re “still thinking,” you don’t have to act. But action forces clarity. You learn what works, what doesn’t, and what needs adjustment. Thinking informs life. Action shapes it.

“Eventually it will pay off” sounds good. But eventually is expensive. Eventually means waiting, hoping, staying unseen longer than necessary Yes, growth takes time. But invisibility makes it take longer.

I’ve felt this myself while building Heritage Pitara. For a long time, I stayed “safe”, talking only about products, process, and business. But the moment I started sharing parts of my journey, leaving a stable career, navigating uncertainty, learning from mistakes, the response changed. Not louder. Just deeper.
Ken Guient@KenGuient

I've run into plenty of founders who want to build a personal but don't want to share personal content because it's too risky. This is what I always tell them: Those posts outperform the "safe" ones almost every single time. The content that feels uncomfotable to publish is usually the content that earns the most trust.
