Great to see that a statue of the groundbreaking Aphra Behn was unveiled in Canterbury this week! I would've loved it if a Bronte sisters statue could have been erected in Bradford to mark its special year this year (not a huge fan of the statue in Haworth Parsonage garden).

The statue of the first professional woman writer, Aphra Behn, is being installed this morning in #Canterbury. The statue is being unveiled by a VVIP on Tuesday morning at 11:30am outside @The_Beaney

A very special visit today by #aphraconference delegates and some guest Cantaburians to see Aphra Behn’s grave in @wabbey - we left a stunning wreath and a spare £ coin, so she doesn’t have to worry about those debts again.

What an end to our wonderful conference. We had director @lovedayIngram along with actors @alexgRSC and Samuel Collings come to discuss @TheRSC 2016 The Rover by Aphra Behn with readings of some epic scenes.

In #InvisibleAgents , I devote a chapter to #AphraBehn's career in espionage, which, I argue, was also the start of her literary career. Spies lie & some of her intelligence letters were mere confections- she was trying her hand at fiction & getting paid for it by the government!
