Quebec has a network of coop kitchens which is pretty cool. I was involved with one but I wasn't really in a place to help. I tried making rice once for the communal meal and only put half the water you should and it ended up crunchy and I said "the rice cooker must be broken."

It’s fundamentally true that cooking food in large batches for communal consumption is easier, less wasteful, and doesn’t duplicate labor in wasteful way. I wish for a world of more nutritious, communal cafeterias, a world where we all take turns cooking for each other!

A challenge of being a true SF lover is the persistent instinct people to have to compare to NYC. I have essentially spent my whole life in San Francisco, I love it and it's perfect for me, and I have... not a bad word to say about NYC, a beautiful and extremely fun city.
