The water is cheaper than the bottle of Coke next to it, which is also a capitalist artifact. Basic sanitation hit the same curve, led by China and India. 2.23 billion people were in extreme poverty in 2000. 831 million in 2025. 1.4 billion humans pulled out of destitution in 25 years, mostly in two countries that quit central planning and turned on markets. The largest poverty reduction in recorded history happened the moment those governments stopped pretending they could allocate capital better than prices could. Now do the alternatives. Mao's Great Leap Forward killed 30 million people trying to set steel quotas from Beijing. Venezuela had the largest oil reserves on Earth and ran out of toilet paper. North Korea is visible from space as a black hole next to South Korea's grid. Cuba is so poor that doctors drive taxis for tips. Every country that tried the thing NYC just voted for ended up poorer, sicker, and shorter-lived than the country next door that didn't.
