It is the best large country in the world. That's the point I was making from the start. That it doesn't really make sense to compare it to Canada, when Canada is the size of a state. The US is the apex country. The global hegemon. What makes us exceptional is that we have what we do when we are as large as we are. We also continue to be the county that commercializes every new technology. The comforts of the modern world exist because of this country. Also on pharmaceuticals, we pay so much, because the rich nations of the world refuse to pay for R&D. Americans subsidize the medical breakthroughs your government provides you.

@Appliedmem777 @0xleegenz @lewing99 Considering Canada has a 10th of the population and what it delivers to the rest of the world I’d have to disagree. I get emotional about it because I’m sick of the American bravado. It is a horrible place to live? Absolutely not. Is it the best country in the world? Hell no.

Edward Norton explains why he's concerned about American exceptionalism "I don't want to use too harsh a word but I think if you're lucky enough to travel, you'll see something that I don't think a lot of Americans do" "We have this enduring narrative of American exceptionalism you know like America's cultural superiority" "I don't think people fully grasp the degree to which we're going to ghettoize ourselves in terms of education, in terms of health, and in so many other areas" "You know, we're not anywhere near the top of what other people are experiencing" "If we keep embracing this idea of pride in regression, where is that going to take us?" "It's not going to take us to a place that we're happy about for our kids"

You're being way too emotional. First the pipelines that power Ontario run through the US and there is only one road connecting the Eastern and Western halves of your country. But I'm not even trying to be antagonistic to Canada. This isn't personal. The honest truth is that America is the most powerful nation in the world and will continue to be. Canada is a great country to live in (though you have your own serious problems and you know it). It will never be a world power.

@Appliedmem777 @0xleegenz @lewing99 Let’s shut the power off in 25% of the US northeast and 100% tariff the wood, aluminum and pot ash you get from Canada and see just how “functionally irrelevant” we are ya dumbass. Oh btw. I’ve lived in the US for 20 years. I’m pretty f’kin educated on the US decline mmkay?

Aww you're so angry. Your points are valid, but so are mine. You seem to not have actually processed what I wrote. Yes you in Canada have taxpayer funded programs that we do not. However Canada is also functionally irrelevant internationally, because it has a small population. The idea that the US is declining on the world stage is a farce. Our only real competition is China and the gap between our GDP is growing not shrinking. China hides it's debt in provincial balance sheets, but it is multiples larger than the US. If what you mean is that the US is becoming less involved in power projection in Europe and is not longer interested in how Europeans feel about America. Then yes, you are correct. That's a matter of strategic positioning rather than a measure of American influence.

@Appliedmem777 @0xleegenz @lewing99 So you call free college, 52 weeks maternity leave, affordable pharmaceuticals, medical bills, income equality and social equality as being insignificant? Please 🙄 the US is in rapid decline on the world stage. Wake up.

The US has plenty of problems that need to be addressed, but it's a truly large developed nation, the only other one on Earth is Japan. To compare it to European states is by and large pointless. They do not compete on the same stage. That doesn't mean we don't need improvements in education, debt reduction and the like. However a nation like Germany or France is pretty much incomparable, they simply aren't large enough in geographic or demographic terms to occupy the place the US does. That is what makes the US exceptional. It is the 3rd most populous nation in the world while being as wealthy as Western Europe and significantly more influential.

@0xleegenz @lewing99 US ranks 31st in education. Rarely cracks top 10 in livable countries. US govt is 37 trillion in debt, manufactures 1/2 of what China does globally. #1 in incarceration rate. #1 in gun deaths. Among the highest in obesity. Tell me how the USA is the greatest nation again? 🙄

The Epstein files were released. Crime rates are down, the regime is now our client state. Trump did say he'd take the oil, so that reinforces my point (money is being put in an account, but the regime can't decide how to spend it.) Is he though? Nobody has seen the guy anyway, no even a prerecorded message to his people. Can't argue with you on the no new wars point. Vote red or blue, but in this country Israel gets what it wants. 🤷‍♂️

@Appliedmem777 @Microinteracti1 Where are the Epstein files, no more wars, a safer america, a more affordable america? Maduro was kidnapped, the regime is still the same. USA is stealing oil. The Ayatollah is now his son, more vicious and radical than before. You seem to be hung up on propaganda, sir.

@acloutier27 @Microinteracti1 The Soviet Union is gone. I know we're all deeply embarrassed that Europe can't seem to stand up to Russia, but Russia is no longer a peer competitor to the US. China is our rival for the 21st century. Europe is on the geopolitical fringe.

@Appliedmem777 @Microinteracti1 Let's be clear: - Trump has no clue about the consequences of some of his choice - All the American bases in Europe for 8 decades, weren't merely there to defend Europe. The US have benefited tremendously from having these bases all these years. And they won't have them anymore.

@Appliedmem777 @Microinteracti1 Europe and Canada didn't raise their military spending because Trump asked them to. They did because they realize that the USA are not reliable security partners anymore, and because the threat from Russia is becoming more and more tangible.

You're wasting your time. These kind of people see nothing special in humanity or anything that binds us. Theirs is a religion of hedonism and pure individualism. Appealing to the spiritual or cultural collective means nothing to them. They see humans as soulless clay to be shaped.

@___TheGOOdWitch Easy to say, but what's the grand narrative that replaces it for the masses? Without God, what holds the collective consciousness together? The 'hive' needs a core purpose to avoid existential chaos.

@lukepowers @histories_arch I agree. Odysseus should have rolled up in at PT boat and mowed down the Trojans with a Gattling gun. So stupid to have swords in the movie at all. They already used a viking ship. A better writer would have brought heavy arms from the modern era.

@histories_arch You gotta love that people who never read The Odyssey in English, much less in Homeric Greek, are so quick to raise hue and cry about the perceived "realism" of an 1900 year old text that includes witches, cyclopes, various monsters, gods and goddesses. So many classics scholars!

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has sparked widespread discussion among historians and archaeologists over its portrayal of the Mycenaean world. While many of the film’s costumes, armor, and weapons have been criticized for drawing inspiration from different historical periods, one artifact appears to stand apart: a Mycenaean Type G sword. This distinctive bronze sword is a well-documented weapon of the Late Bronze Age and is closely associated with the Mycenaean civilization, the cultural setting traditionally linked to the Homeric epics. Archaeological discoveries from sites such as Mycenae, Tiryns, and Pylos have revealed numerous examples of this sword type, making it one of the most recognizable weapons of the period. Its appearance in the film suggests that the production did incorporate at least one artifact based on genuine archaeological evidence. However, critics argue that it remains an isolated example within a broader visual design that departs considerably from what is currently known about Mycenaean material culture. As a result, the Type G sword has become an unexpected focal point in the ongoing debate over the historical authenticity of Nolan’s cinematic interpretation of Homer’s epic. © Greece High Definition #archaeohistories

Nearly the entire population of England doesn't give a singular fuck.. people are experiencing themselves and living their lives to much to give a singular shit about any of this.. The only people who do care about any of this are generally mentally ill, unregulated emotionally and need to log off. But you enjoy wasting your lives talking about us... You're going to get to your death beds and wonder what you even did with your lives 😂
