Your children owe you nothing. It wasn't their choice to be born or their actions that resulted in their existence. It was yours. So live with it. Do your best. Love them unconditionally. And expect nothing. Not even gratitude for the fact that you wiped their butts or put in so much time or paid for so much stuff or any of the sacrifices you made. Sure, it's nice if they're thankful and respectful and help you out a bit and all the rest. But that's their decision. Trying to make them feel guilty for your choices will lead to resentment not gratitude. And the devaluing feeling that raising them was not an act of love but a chore for which compensation in kind is due. Love is not a debt to be repaid.
