Some cracking little lithics today and plenty of shells as we opened up our first tests and cleaned down to the HUGE intact midden - what will tomorrow bring?!👀

🔬 Microscopic traces of ancient fats, waxes or resins can provide some of our biggest archaeological 'clues' – but they're invisible in the ground, so how do we access them? Armed with a teaspoon, tinfoil and distilled water, we undertake a process known as 'lipid sampling', systematically collecting samples of soils likely to contain these residues. Back in the lab, these lipids can reveal what the people of the past were cooking, processing and even just storing ⚱️ In the video, #OCAArchTeam take lipid samples from medieval ovens on the Suffolk coast, helping us investigate what they may have once been used for... @SizewellC #OxfordArchaeology #ScienceWeek #BSW26 #Archaeology #Suffolk #Science

What If Wolverine Had Vibranium Instead of Adamantium 🚨 Firstly, Wolverine would become a lot quicker because vibranium is a much lighter alloy. Adamantium makes Logan insanely heavy, around 300 pounds, despite being only 5 feet 3 inches. Secondly, it would stop his adamantium poisoning, which has always been a dangerous side effect of his metal skeleton. But that advantage comes with deadly consequences, depending on which type of vibranium is used. Wakandan vibranium absorbs and releases kinetic energy, meaning every punch or impact Logan takes could store energy inside his body until it violently releases, potentially blowing his limbs off from the inside. The second type of vibranium, Antarctic vibranium, is even worse. It dissolves other metals, which means it could literally eat away the iron in Wolverine's blood and melt him from the inside out. That’s why adamantium was the only safe choice.

Bonus post no. 2 for this #MosaicMonday: a new book on mosaics is always exciting, and this one by Steve Cosh - which is about to be published - should be illustrated with lots of lovely pictures. Looking forward to getting my copy soon! 1/2

An 1183 mention of “Lambert the marble cutter” is the first known reference to Frosterley Marble, actually a black limestone containing #fossils of extinct coral. Highly desirable during the #medieval period, this sedimentary rock is found near Frosterley, County Durham, UK.
