I saw Gladiator II, expecting it to be dumb, but thinking, Fuck it, Ridley Scott, big screen, it’ll at least look amazing, and we can’t take that for granted. Anyway, I was flabbergasted. It’s entirely MENTAL… and METAL. I was shocked and awed and amazed. It’s explicitly a perfectly timed mirror of this cultural moment, and the subtext is savage and exactly correct, right from the first moment up to the batshit and glorious finale. It is insanely based. I have no idea whether this was deliberate, or another case of true mythopoetica rising up in a piece of art IN SPITE of the creators… Regardless, the more I think about it the more perfect it is. Most people won’t get it, but in time it will be considered a cult classic, and ultimately a masterpiece I’m gonna go see it again tomorrow
