What if highlights weren’t limited by cameras? We captured more than a game — we captured the entire moment. Illinois Fighting Illini vs Tennessee Volunteers. Bridgestone Arena. 12/6/25. One moment. Countless perspectives. Follow along arcturus-sports.com

The tech we use to capture sports is a decade ahead of how we actually watch it. We can reproduce entire games in 3D, track every player down to their pose and heartbeat - but barely any of that makes it to your living room. 0:00 Immersion Gap 0:48 Computer Vision & Hawk-Eye 1:42 Player Tracking & Wearables 2:08 AI Analytics & Real-Time Stats 3:07 VR Sports Viewing & Why It Fails 4:16 Radiance Fields & Gaussian Splatting 5:10 Viewpoint Pro: Virtual Replays 5:59 Arcturus: 4D Gaussian Splatting 7:31 Muybridge: Virtual Camera Systems 9:53 F1 Vision Pro Experience 11:26 XR Sports Alliance 11:47 COSM: The $600 Ticket 13:04 The Future of Sports Broadcasting I break down the companies and tech turning sports into a next-gen immersive experience - from Sony's Hawk-Eye camera systems and NFL tracking chips to AI analytics powered by Google Cloud and AWS. We look at why VR headset viewing keeps failing, and how 4D Gaussian Splatting from Arcturus and multi-plane image-based volumetric capture from Muybridge are creating viewing angles that were previously impossible. Plus the F1 Vision Pro experience, the XR Sports Alliance, and why COSM's in-person model is winning where headsets can't. The data foundation is clearly there. The real question is how it gets to you. Hope you enjoyed this; follow @bilawalsidhu for more deep dives mapping the frontier of creation & computing.

@davesmiddy @bilawalsidhu Thanks @davesmiddy! We're in the "sports is passive" camp, but with room to enable a large new set of creators beyond just the single broadcast voice. That set could get wide (e.g. fantasy player coverage, "did you see this" among friends), but we agree viewing is lean-back.

@bilawalsidhu good to see Steve and team continue the journey!!! would love to see someone have the balls to enable user controlled views in a broadcast. that's always been a philosophical debate -- story driven by broadcaster vs story driven by user

This will change the way we experience sports forever -- watching the game from a gods eye view. Arcturus is building 4D gaussian splatting tech that can capture every angle of a sporting event and pushes the bar for volumetric video. I tested this in a headset and it makes 360 and 3D 180 video look ancient. This puts you closer to the action than any stadium seat, and it’s genuinely mind blowing.

@orenjacob @bilawalsidhu Totally agree @orenjacob, sports is largely lean-back. The win is giving producers superpowers, and vastly expanding the universe of producer/creators. Plus analysis, training, and new forms of storytelling and immersion you can't do with a handful of 2d clips.

@bilawalsidhu Yes, it’s cool. But no, we won’t all watch sports like this. Some will and some will analyze details after, especially to look at particularly heroic plays or close calls by the ref. But we won’t, categorically, watch sports this way.

The future of sports took center stage in Tokyo last month 🏀Exciting to see outlets like @nhk_SunSports taking an interest, the #futureofsports viewing is coming sooner than you think. Where do you envision #spatialvideo making the biggest impact for fans?

A year ago, Sagar encountered a common challenge while creating a demo with multiple volumetric characters in #Unity - data overload. Not only did AVV break that barrier, but Sagar is set up to push those limits with a few hundred more characters. #volumetricvideo

[3/3] first test of @ArcturusXR AVV volumetric video playback plugin in Unity, easily handles multiple characters Shown here is the initial sample data which is at 30/24fps real-time area lights, raytraced shadows, SSGI, reflections etc,all running at 1080p 60fps on a 2080Ti

This game blew me away! The best use of VR i have seen so far! Volumetric video is something else and the environments are just staggeringly amazing. This is also a remake of a legendary 1993 game, which was famous for its cruelly difficult puzzles. None of that difficulty in the remake. Most puzzles are completely different, but very well designed for VR. Ultra enjoyable mindblowingly atmospheric experience. I think im gonna replay it again very soon… #The7thGuestVR #The7thGuest
