@CitizAssembly We were trying to get our submission to you today so it could be considered tomorrow, but we're still working on it! Are we too late if we submit it now?

There is more carbon stored in Sphagnum moss than any other plant genus on the planet. It's also beautiful.

"All wildlife habitats are valuable but some are rarer than others, some are home to more life than others and some are irreplaceable." @DanesMoss Here's a handy video by Richard Lindsay, University of East London, explaining how #RaisedBogs are formed. youtu.be/_CCMngoQdos

Shells helped create waterlogged, low oxygen conditions. Any plants which fell into the lake did not decompose as there were no worms, bacteria or fungi. Over a looooong time the lake fills with plant material. Trapped under water the plant material slooowly becomes #peat.

Like all raised bogs in Ireland, Ardee Bog is about 10,000 years old. As the Ice Age glaciers melted ice scratched the land creating depressions which formed lakes filled with glacial melt water. The lakes were lined with a chalk marl formed from shells. #peat
