@masonhensley Absolutely. I’ve have always been curious about Ginkgo. Have you heard much about what they have going on nowadays? Quite a few machine builders are selling off-the-shelf mechanical units to modularize their systems. We are trying to do the same with our control systems.

@AricRecker Of course - I’m making some ground up machinery - using 3030 extrusion. I went looking for best practices of sizing… From my experience with shipping, 24”, 48” are generally better for LTL freight… Something like this for manufacturing would rock ginkgo.bio/product/hardwa…

@masonhensley Machine size is typically dictated by the size of the part. The other features are standards we have made over the years.

@AricRecker Nice! I was thinking the other day, are there any standards in automation equipment sizing? I think we need to have a reindustrialization blueprint for equipment. Small, medium, large. Best practices… I like the reinforced fork lift points, cage around the power/plc.

My best advice: hire the best talent you know in industry and sell the highest quality product possible. In essence, be the Swiss watch maker. As AI disrupts products, markets, etc there will always be more value for atoms vs bits. Aka. Digital vs. Mechanical.

@zanehengsperger True. Right now it’s a completely level playing field. I’ve heard big businesses say AI is a gimicky tool and is on a 3-4yr plan. Our team is 6 days a week 12hr days. Jamming out code and machines.

the cost of literally doing nothing is exponentially rising due to AI i can have 300x the output on most tasks compared to 2 years ago you can get really really far ahead of everyone else right now

We won our competitors largest account in our area due to our software. They called the customer and started ruthlessly trash talking us, even saying that we have fake photos on our website. (there was one AI image I had as a background on a specific page but I thought it was painfully obvious lol) Our competitor does $1B+ in revenue per year and has been around since the vietnam war.

this weekend i learned something extremely important about writing software for manufacturing the person writing the code must be deeply entrenched in the factory operations and nuances of the workflows also i really dont know why you would buy any off the shelf manufacturing software anymore when you can custom build your own with all the nuance and with your own data and train your own models
