@WonderTeach I thinking grading IS prep if we are doing formative assessment correctly. Also, you are 100% correct Cara. We deserve to be compensated for all of our time.

One thing I’ve learned as a teacher. It takes repeating directions 4 times for 80% of the room to hear them. There is no amount of repetition for which 100% of people will hear them.

Just your regular reminder that preaching growth mindset while calculating final grades by averaging scores over time is the same as smiling at someone while you slap them.

The best part of teaching is the time with kids. The worst part of teaching is all of the things that don't involve being with kids.

@CovingtonEDU @MrBHealey Is content the same as reading skills? Do we mean “covering material” or practicing skills? Regardless, EF training is the horse for that cart in my opinion. I agree with Nick that EF should be prioritized. Kids need that in 13th grade more than content, in general, I think.

Totally agree. I have heard some pushback to this before: “But my content is important!” Sure it is, so is mine, but I haven’t graphed a slope nor dissected an animal nor made a timeline since 1996, but I use executive function everyday.

A3: I would argue that #SoftSkills are more important than academic content. Academic content can be learned at any time and is only necessary if it is meaningful and applicable to the person at that moment. #SoftSkills, however, are transferable to any situation. #TG2chat

Agreed! And, students, if you don’t, not a big deal, but most of us got into this career to interact with you. You have the opportunity to help us fulfill that goal.

I just got so excited that one of my masked, distanced, F2F learners used a resource on his own to solve his own problem, without my help! Then, I went to fist bump him to express my joy...then retreated in shame without touching him. This is tough; it takes the best parts away

I did not know how to potently express how I feel right now until I just heard @jonlovett say, “Hope is annoying because it makes demands of you.” Note to self: Complacency and inaction are actions. Feel something and do something about it.

@WonderTeach I say this as a 20 year coach who loves sports...so this can happen but I can’t do group work in my F2F classes? Just seems like an inconsistent approach.

Normally I just keep my tweets limited to teaching, but I did a thing yesterday. First half marathon. Hit my goal of 8:30 per mile average.

For year 20’s first day, first time I haven’t worn a tie. Just one of many changes.

I’m naming what I’m feeling: In the school building, you can’t escape knowing it’s a pandemic. From the furniture in the hallways, the different furniture in the classrooms, the masks... At home I could escape it. I don’t know this feeling. It’s new to me. Do you feel it?
