the lack of spices such as cayenne, different types of peppers, turmeric, cumin, etc. and the tendency to go for souring foods might be a hint of the geography’s historical non-spice orientation. Furthermore the vegetables here are on the bitter end as well

Why is Filipino food so unlike the neighboring countries in SEA? Virtually no spice and everything sweet and no fresh herbs or veggies.

@MminaMac @TheVoiceofSpri1 But also you have to consider that “mainstream” Filipino food is mostly the food that’s popular in luzon you don’t really get to see the regional cuisine that’s the exact opposite. Visayas is still very much fresh seafood and vegetable heavy while Mindanao that had more contact+

@crimson_lux @gunboneyard @hachitori_kuri What’s kinda funny is that a lot of people that talk about using spices in cooking don’t really know what they’re talking about. Like it ranges from “food isn’t spiced because only 1 or 2 dried or powdered peppers were used” to “it’s just not spicy”

@mikaru_shiran Honestly the whole thing could’ve been prevented if he just said he developed a new vegan ube ice cream recipe. Just adding a new in there or at least clarifying that it’s a new recipe developed for their machines instead of being snarky would’ve been better
