What's the key difference between our two political parties? Republicans play politics, Democrats exercise power.

Very well done to the @australian on publishing this excellent collection that will become in future a time capsule of this miserable & cowardly & profoundly unAustralian time. Includes a justly searing piece by @GemmaTognini

I'm growing tired of hackneyed criticisms of King's sort. Asked and answered, many times. Also getting tired of the "unprepared" charge. What do they think CENTCOM's been thinking about/preparing for in the last 30 years plus?

We shld utilize better tactics and technologies. Stipulated. But the better calculation is the cost of the defending missile against the value of the thing you’re defending. And we are still on the right side of that. Also a good reminder that we have to shoot the archers.

This may be heresy to some, possibly most: but Bismarck is the closest comparison to Trump of all 19th century statesmen.
Greg R. Lawson@ConservaWonk

#Bismarck was pretty clearly the greatest statesman of the second half of the 19th Century. While his mercurial leader, Wilhelm II led Germany to ruin after dismissing Bismarck & then later in #WWI, Bismarck's genius established a remarkable power. #Germany #History

Thanks, but somehow a Dickens novel of less than 400 pages doesn't grab me. I'm still a fan of the Lean film, tho; also his Oliver Twist.
Jonathan Leaf@WriterJonLeaf

@ArthurLHerman Great Expectations may not be as great as David Copperfield, but it's Dickens' most consistently excellent book. Only married by the ending. Often very funny, too. You won't be disappointed.
