Today, we are turning tragedy into action to help protect Maryland families and prevent future loss. As an engineer, I know infrastructure safety is about protecting lives. The signing of Mason's Law will help communities identify dangerous drainage infrastructure and prioritize critical safety improvements before another tragedy occurs. Thank you to Mason’s family for their extraordinary courage and advocacy in honoring his memory through meaningful change.

It’s not a coincidence. It is bias. And that ended this week in Maryland.

Yesterday, SB189, “Mason’s Law,” was signed into law to help protect Marylanders and save lives. After the tragic loss of 13-year-old Mason Kearns, his family turned unimaginable grief into action. The law strengthens storm-drain safety to help protect families across Maryland. To Mason’s family: thank you for your extraordinary courage and advocacy. Mason’s memory will help save lives across Maryland.

Thank you to the Riderwood Democratic Club for the warm welcome. I loved the engagement, thoughtful questions, and energy in the room. It was wonderful to be with so many Marylanders who care deeply about our communities and the future of our state.

As someone born in India who now proudly calls Maryland home, it was incredibly meaningful to join leaders from across the U.S. and India at the @SelectUSA India Reception this week, including Governor @MattMeyerDE and Secretary Charuni Patibanda-Sanchez from our neighboring state. 🇺🇸🇮🇳 Maryland’s partnership with India is built on innovation, entrepreneurship, and a shared belief in shaping the future together. From life sciences and aerospace to quantum and emerging technology, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead to strengthen our economic ties and continue building bridges between our communities.

Last night I joined UMBC’s Institute of Politics for an important conversation on the growing influence of AAPI voters in Maryland and across the country. From confronting disinformation targeting AAPI communities to calling out hateful rhetoric here in Maryland, one thing is clear: diversity is not our weakness. It is our strength. As our communities continue to grow, so does our responsibility to protect inclusive democracy, reject hate and misinformation, and ensure every Marylander feels seen, heard, and represented.

The final piece of rail is officially in place on the Purple Line — a major milestone for one of the largest transit projects in the country. This project is about more than transportation. It’s about connecting Marylanders to jobs, schools, healthcare, and opportunity. As an engineer, it’s especially meaningful to see years of vision and hard work becoming reality. Thank you to the thousands of workers, planners, and partners helping build a more connected Maryland.

Loving our state does not mean lying about its history. It means telling the truth — even when the truth is hard. Today we honored the more than 230 Black boys who died at the House of Reformation and lie in unmarked graves. And today, we announced that we are restoring their burial sites. Their stories deserve justice and their souls deserve eternal peace.

Jewish Americans have helped shape Maryland and our nation through generations of leadership, service, and community. Their impact is woven into who we are and continues to help move our state forward. HB 823 requires AI companies to be transparent about the data used to train their systems. Accountability and consumer protection are not radical ideas.
