How to use $VIX.
Most folks disregard VIX. Overlook it as a secondary data point. Wake UP...
Swing traders, day traders, options traders...whatever you are, $VIX is your best read on volatility & forward uncertainty.
I think of it as the market's heart rate.
I personally use the $20 level to gauge the current market environment.
Above $20 + holding -> uncertainty expanding -> I reduce size.
Below $20 + compressing -> cleaner tape -> I can get more aggressive
The level itself is important, but the behavior *at* the level tells the story.
> fast spikes that fade lower = panic being absorbed / liquidity events = can be bullish
> low grinds upward = unstable market structure = typically bearish
Let's look at the $20 level YTD.
$VIX has closed over $20 five times in '26 so far.
Those days (with closing levels) are:
Jan 20: $20.09
Feb 5: $21.77
Feb 12: $20.82
Feb 13: $20.60
Feb 16: $21.20
(per @pplxfinance)
Noticing how *four* of those closes have been in the last 2 weeks...pretty good example of why it's best for the majority of people to just sit on your hands right now.
I keep a little $vix chart on the corner on my screen, as it tells me *how* to trade (activity, size), not *what* to trade.
