System design round at Amazon for SDE-III: IRCTC serves 3 million users at 10am sharp every day for Tatkal bookings. Same spike. Same time. Completely predictable. It crashes anyway. Amazon handled 600 million page views on Prime Day without a single checkout failure. The traffic was unpredictable, distributed across 20 product categories, and hit 10 different regions simultaneously. One system knows exactly when the traffic is coming and still fails. The other never knows and never does. What does Amazon know about traffic that IRCTC doesn't and why does predictability make the problem harder not easier?

@priteshlakhani Not only tatkal tickets, now normal reversed tickets are getting pre-booked by agents. WL 10 ticket booked by me 1 month before journey remains at same position , and got cancelled 5 hours before departure.

विदर्भातुन मुंबईला येण्यासाठी ट्रेनची मात्रा कमी केली नवीन काही ट्रेन नाहीत.. मराठवाड्यातून मुंबईला येण्यासाठी आहेत त्याच ट्रेन आहेत.. पश्चिम महाराष्ट्र कोल्हापूर हुन मुंबई ला येण्यासाठी ट्रेन आहेत त्याच कमी केल्यात.. कोकणातील ट्रेन पण कमी केल्यात... पण गुजरात मध्यप्रदेश बिहार युपी कडून पुणे मुंबई ला येणाऱ्या ट्रेनची मात्रा वाढवली आहे.. सरासरी ट्रेन प्रचंड आहेत.. महाराष्ट्र ट्रेन माध्यमातून मुंबई पासून का तोडल्या जातोय.. लोक याबाबत चर्चा का करत नाहीत..

गडचिरोलीतील एटापल्ली तालुक्यात लॉयड्स स्टील ची खाण आहे. सुरजागड च्या डोंगरात. खाणीतून उपसलेली माती डोंगरा खालील गावातून नदी नाल्यात, शेतात पसरते. मलमपाडी गावातील ओढ्याचे काल घेतलेले छायाचित्र. आता उन्हाळा आहे. गाई गुरे ओढ्यात पाणी प्यायला जातात. चिखलात रुततात. ह्या गावात आता पर्यंत ६ गुरे अशी मेलीत. ओढ्यातील मासे बेडुक वगैरे मेले, शेतातून धानाचे पीक अर्ध्य वर आले . " विकासाचा " फटका ज्याना बसतो त्यांना पुरेशी नुकसान भरपाई तरी आवश्यक आहे. ह्या गावातून नक्षलवाद संपविला आहे. पुनः दुःख संपले नाही. एका लाल रंगाची जागा दुसरा लाल रंग घेतो आहे. पोस्ट - नीरज हातेकर
