@AshleyFaunce @LonghornSloth @Jani__Gee So if they were renting, she shouldn’t contribute to the rent? What diffeeence does it make that it’s a mortgage? They chose a partnership, so why would they not partner on paying the mortgage? Privilege and entitlement is all that is.

@LonghornSloth @Jani__Gee The fact that you think she should be paying the mortgage on a house that she has no financial interest in is insane. I can see her paying for utilities, groceries, etc but the property owner needs to pay the mortgage.

@Jani__Gee This whole post and reply section is a fantastic argument against cohabitation and late marriage. Unless the implication is that she’s moving in to be a bang-maid, this is a pre-marriage, shared-asset trial. Of course she should help w/ the mortgage if she’s moving in.

Just got a quote for a new garage at our lake house. $70,000. Includes: Foundation. 24x30 garage. Loft area upstairs with full plumbing. Earth leveling. Running utilities, like power, water, and sewer. This is good, terrible, or about right?

@KeruboSk Nope. If you’re putting in any funds make sure your name is on the deed. I only contributed $10k when we bought our first home compared to $30k with my now husband. I would protect your investment by refusing to not go on title.

My boyfriend and I are planning to buy a house together after dating for 3 years. He earns significantly more than I do, so he’d be contributing about 70% of the down payment. Because of that, he wants the house to be only in his name. He says it’s just “fair” based on the numbers, but we’d both be living there, splitting bills, and building a life together. I’ve been watching a lot of relationship content about equity vs equality, and it made me realize things don’t always have to be 50/50 but this feels like I’d have no security at all. He said if we ever broke up, he’d “do the right thing,” but that doesn’t really reassure me. My friends say don’t move in unless my name is on it. His friends apparently think I’m being entitled. Now I feel stuck between trusting him and protecting myself. Is this a red flag I’m trying too hard to rationalize?

@Madz_Grant It’s also fair to note that parents are working MUCH more than previous generations. My husband often works 60 hours a week and I also work full time so we are exhausted. Kids need to learn how to entertain themselves without parents performing a circus 24/7

I've noticed amongst friends who have little kids that they are basically forced into waking up when they do. When I was little I remember v clearly knowing that we shouldn't go and wake parents until at least 9am on a weekend, and generally entertaining ourselves in the morning

@Madz_Grant My 6 and 4 year old do this on the weekends. I leave milk in the fridge and they can work the TV. They either play together or watch a show. If they really need something they know they can come in and ask but it’s much better for everyone if Dad and I can sleep for an extra hour
