Game, Set and Match (1988). Granada TV's miniseries of the Len Deighton spy trilogy. Ian Holm plays Bernard Samson, the British spy looking for the mole in the East German network. 13 episodes, a huge budget and critical acclaim but it wasn't a ratings winner. Maybe it was the timing, the Cold War held less interest for a 1988 audience. Or maybe the sheer length of the series made it hard for viewers to keep up. I don't think it's been released on DVD or even video, but it's certainly a testament to Granada TV's ambitions for serious television drama.
