!!!! First day of our new podcast, America Actually (w/ Astead Herndon). It's going to be about the upcoming elections and America's road to a post-Trump future. But as we got started I wanted to write something about why I landed on that theme and what I saw as the our mission in a landscape of a lot of media choices

The stories driving the Trump backlash in polling aren't coming from the left. It's price increases nobody voted for. A war no one wanted. Epstein. Old age. And immigration roundups of neighbors, not "violent criminals." Promises made, promises broken On @karaswisher @voxmedia

Voters have stopped trusting their election officials, their newspapers, and their doctors. They trust a friend's group chat instead. But I still think news coverage misses is when this breakdown first appeared. Not 2024. But COVID. The conspiracy ecosystem grew into the empty space. On Raging Moderates with @JessicaTarlov

Most advice for Democrats is ideological — be more centrist or progressive etc. But I’ve met so many voters who beliefs don’t fit in that box, or choose pieces from all buckets. IMO — it is much important to have clearly articulated vision as a candidate than to calibrate to those whims With @karaswisher

Scoop — Trump admin's new Medicare portal accidentally exposed health workers’ social security numbers. It’s latest setback with DOGE-backed initiative. We flagged the problem to officials two days ago to fix it. with @ccemorse washingtonpost.com/health/2026/04…

A Secret Service officer fired four times at Cole Allen, and in the direction of other security personnel, as he charged a security checkpoint, a Post review of surveillance footage has found. There was no indication on the footage that Allen fired his weapon:

can't believe that just happened: Trump got a NASA question and deferred to NASA administrator Jared Isaacman, saying "the best man to tell you that is the man sitting right over here. You heard that question with those beautiful ears of yours ... He's got super hearing"

THERE IT IS — Voting Rights Act narrowed by SCOTUS. Seismic decision. Narrowing Section 2 fundamentally looses the rules of redistricting and gerrymandering. Expect years of aggressive map redraws, legal battles, and partisan hardball before a new status quo emerges. Buckle up.
VoteHub@VoteHub

LANDMARK DECISION — The Supreme Court has narrowed Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act with their decision in Louisiana v. Callais, opening the door to sweeping redistricting changes across the South that could erase up to 10 majority-Black seats and flip them from blue to red.

Before the 2024 elex I controversially said on The Daily that our breakdown of shared reality will make conspiratorial denial inevitable. No matter who wins. That was true then, though the Dem conspiracies post-Nov were undercovered. Was true after Kirk killing. It’s true re: Butler and WCHD shootings. Our new reality is a fundamentally broken one

In our last @ManhattanInst survey, we found that 46% of today’s Democratic coalition believes “the assassination attempt against Donald Trump in July 2024 was orchestrated by his supporters to increase sympathy for him.” manhattan.institute/article/do-dem…
