A 2.5-second rocket flight that heralded decades of discovery in space! Today marks 100 years since the first successful test of a liquid-fueled rocket. Robert H. Goddard's achievement would have appeared unimpressive by most measures: His rocket flew just 41 feet in the air, landing in a nearby cabbage patch. 100 years ago today, Robert Goddard launched the first liquid fueled rocket engine! It only went 12.5m (41 feet), but it was where it all began. My favorite thing is the engine on top with the tanks below. This was the pendulum fallacy, and it in fact, is not more stable.

Fun fact: Perseverance is helping keep the @NASAArtemis II crew safe! The rover can see sunspots not visible from Earth — giving up to 2 weeks’ advance notice so the team can monitor and prepare for potentially dangerous solar flares. go.nasa.gov/4rvmclj

At 11.40pm last night, a monster positive lightning bolt lit up the sky just East of Norman, Oklahoma.
And I was in Texas with my camera pointed above that storm, and captured the giant red sprite it produced.

NOAA/CIRA GOES-19 satellite captured our *textbook* nor’easter this morning. Down to 966mb at 10am, pressure comparable to a borderline MAJOR HURRICANE.
While no such thing as a SNOWICANE, this is as close as it gets — I mean look at that eye!
