Los Angeles Olympics tickets include a 24% service fee, compared to 1.5% charged for Paris 2024. LA28 told FOS that it accounts for processing and delivering tickets in a manner that will “align with standard industry practices for ticketing live events in the U.S.”

@FOS Smart because it gives an incentive to actually show up, but they should be locked to the ID of the person who purchases the passes to avoid resale

Exclusive: World Cup fan fests in Los Angeles will not be free, FOS has learned. Fan fests have historically been free, but organizers in LA will charge attendees ages 12 and up, saying, “If they don’t buy tickets, you have no idea who’s going to show up."

I’m a big fan of free speech, but we should probably ban doctors from comparing their TOTAL debt with their ANNUAL income. Paying even 8% interest on $300k of medical debt comes to $24k/year. So, this poor neurosurgeon’s $749k salary is really just $725k after adjusting for debt.
Joseph Younis, MD@YounisJoseph

When you adjust a neurosurgeons pay for 40 hour weeks, their salary drops from a reported $749k to $483k. Now imagine 4 years undergrad, 4 years med school, 7-10 years residency, 300k debt to for an effective 483k pre-tax. You just started and you’re 20 years from using your 401k

@xwanyex Rich people will just send kids to private schools and petition the state for vouchers (like Texas did)

Just to state this plainly: I do not think that rich people will move into undesirable, poor neighborhoods on the hope that their mediocre kids will be in the top 10% of those school districts and will therefore get into college on that basis 🤷🏻‍♂️

🚨 𝗡𝗘𝗪: FIFA now has created a new ticket category to sell 'front row' seats for World Cup matches. FIFA is selling these for double the price of category 1 tickets and supposedly you could've gotten 'front row' seats from those as well. Fans all over the world are feeling scammed and deceived, as per reports. — @TheAthleticFC

It's a scam. Rather than listening to concerns around ticketing and ticket prices at this World Cup, FIFA are going in the opposite direction and doubling down on this ticket racket.
Henry Bushnell@HenryBushnell

New (seriously): FIFA has now created an extra ticket category to sell "front" row World Cup seats for double the price of Category 1 tickets (which supposedly could’ve yielded “front” row seats). Fans feel deceived. More @TheAthleticFC... nytimes.com/athletic/71829…

Tourism bans, Airbnb bans, these are bad ideas Hypertourism should be taxed into manageable levels with Pigovian tools like this 👇 You don't need a ban, you need an aggressive but thoughtful tax regime that moderates hypertourism & yields wide public benefit

Since introducing a dual-pricing scheme -- 1,000 yen for city residents and 2,500 yen for everyone else -- Himeji Castle has seen a 17% drop in visitors, but a doubling of revenue.

How do D1 non-majors survive when they are just a poaching ground for higher level D1s? For example, Ryan Pedon at Illinois State did everything absolutely right - recruited good players, developed them. Got the Redbirds to the NIT Final 4. And now that nucleus is in the portal...so "higher" D1s, who have zero relationship with those kids, can come buy their remaining eligibility time. To me, that is a college basketball world that is not sustainable. It's great if you're Michigan, UConn, Duke, Kentucky, and all the schools with all the NIL $$. But what about everyone else?
HoopsGPT™️@HoopsGPT

@coachgkap @BQuillmanQcast Serious question… why isn’t it sustainable?

Fyi, for anyone who is complaining, the tickets I sold for yesterday's game were from my season ticket package. Not that anyone has any right to say about what I do with my tickets no matter how I acquired them cuz it's not your business 😹

@bkmbooks @bartongellman Which Digital Rights Management changes could be so dire that they cant roll them into older models? Books haven't evolved except to insert ads and try to charge for them. It's 100% about ads

@AtReggie @bartongellman I’m not a techie and I don’t bother with removing DRM so I can’t explain it well, but my understanding is Amazon has stronger DRM controls on newer models. What they’re doing sucks, just not related to ads.

It's one thing to say older devices don't support some new feature or service or operating system. But to make the deliberate choice to brick a device that's working perfectly well, in order to force your customer to buy a new one, is a hostile act of predatory capitalism.
WIRED@WIRED

In an email to customers, Amazon announced that it would be ending service for Kindle devices older than the 2012 edition. Those devices will lose access to the Kindle Store. wired.com/story/amazon-p…
