We visited Nto Okpo, Essien Udim LGA, one of the beneficiaries of this project and report that this project has not been done. According to the village head, the community has been in darkness for the past 15years. No electricity or solar streetlights. He lamented how this has negatively impacted residents, stressing how much this provision is needed. We implore @FmardNg, the implementing agency to provide the public with details of how funds disbursed to this project was used.

In Aug 2025, N755m was paid to RAYOZ DIGIT SERVICES LTD ABUJA for the Emergency Construction and Installation of Solar Street Light Amenities in Rural Areas of Ikot Akai, Nto Okpo, Inen & Nkari Communities, Akwa Ibom state. We tracked this project at Ikot Akai and report that less than 20 solar street lights were installed along the major road that connects the community to neighboring areas and one unit in front of the village head's house. However apart from that, none were installed on the streets of the community. The village head mentioned that it gets dangerous in the community at night, so there's a need for additional units of streetlights to be installed within the community. We call on @FmardNg, the implementing agency to facilitate this for the community. We will keep tracking to ensure quality work is done in other communities.

Behind The Mask: France's Rebranding Of Africa Policy After being pushed back in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, France is now trying to enter Anglophone Africa through soft power, summits, influencers, artists, military agreements, and tax partnerships under the pretext of “innovation” and “partnership.” It is evident that France continues to seek ways to protect its influence, maintain access, shape public opinion, and sustain its economic and political interests in Africa. This explains why Macron is focusing on young Africans, drawing on distance from colonial memory, celebrity culture, and influencer optics to portray France as a constructive partner. But we know better. Africa must reject this neo-colonial rebranding in its entirety.

Executions in 2025 soared to the highest figure recorded by Amnesty International since 1981. Iran was the main driver behind the spike, doubling its 2024 figure, a dangerous trend as the authorities used the death penalty to instil fear and punish dissent. Our new report, Death Sentences and Executions 2025, out now: amn.st/6015BBLDxJ

Rising fuel costs in Kenya led to public transport strikes across the country this week. Vehicles associated with Kenya’s Transport Sector Alliance stopped operating in protest to the rising costs, as just last week the country’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority hiked prices by as much as 23.5%. Halting transport operations left thousands of commuters stranded while violent crackdowns on protests erupted in Nairobi, leaving at least four people dead and dozens injured. Amid chaotic scenes, police in the city fired teargas and arrested dozens of protesters. We stand in solidarity with Kenyans and call on the National Police Service to respect, protect and facilitate the right to freedom of peaceful assembly, association, and expression. The killings at protests must be promptly, independently and effectively investigated.

He was just a teacher. He only wanted to teach and impart knowledge into his pupils. He was kidnapped, He was tied up and made to beg. He begged for his life in tears. He was thrown on the floor. And his head was brutally cut off. An action by heartless barbaric animals who serve a bloodsucking demonic god. These are the terrorists that the government calls their “brothers”. We should wake up everyday as a country and this picture should haunt us all.

In Aug 2025, N1.1bn was paid to DASIR INTERNATIONAL RESOURCES LTD for the Construction/Fabrication of Solar Streetlight in Rural Communities of Ikot Ntuk, Ukwok, Odoro Ikpe, Ikot Inyang and Itu Edino LGAs in Akwa Ibom state. We tracked this project at Odoro Ikpe, Ini LGA and report that this project has not been done. In fact, at the time of our visit, residents were unaware of this provision. The community considers it a high priority for them because of the insecurity at night. As we keep tracking this project in other beneficiary LGAs, we also implore the implementing agency @FmardNg, to provide the public with details of how funds disbursed for this project was used.

African Proverb Of The Week When the colonial criminals of Europe first stepped foot in Africa, they did not meet a “poor”, “starving” or “corrupt” continent. Otherwise, they and their descendants would not have gone on to plunder this continent for 500 years. What Africans know today as poverty, hunger and corruption are not indigenous phenomena, but symptoms of a disease that was brought upon their land by parasites who had no interest in “civilizing” anyone. It is a tragic irony. Africa is “poor” because it is wealthy, and because this wealth is being plundered, and the centuries the West has spent plundering Africa’s wealth is a testament to just how boundless that wealth is. That is the wisdom of this East African proverb. It is up to Africans to resist the West’s plunder, in all its forms, from the predatory corporations, to the “aid”, to the military bases, polluted technologies, NGOs and religious cults, to the divisions along arbitrary ethnic lines, and an entertainment industry infected by the West’s self-serving, hedonistic materialism.

In Dec 2025, N17.5m was paid to TOP-MOUNTAIN ENTERPRISES NIGERIA LTD for the Provision and Installation of Solar Powered Streetlights along Vision Rd Section Okopedi Uyo Rd, Itu LGA, Akwa Ibom state. We tracked and report that this project has not been done despite disbursement. The village head told us that the community is unaware of this project until our visit. They are also in dire need of a solar borehole as water scarcity has been a pressing issue in the community for years. Currently, residents rely on streams and privately owned boreholes for water. We call on @FedRoadsNGR, the implementing agency to provide the public with details of how funds disbursed to this project was used. We urge the @aksgovt, to address the lack of water in this community.
