Seen on Netflix. Sitting on Houghton Ridge in Johannesburg. The Gatsby mansion is back on the market at R78 million. I came across a live listing for the 4-storey mansion measuring 2000m2. This mansion has had a long, dramatic relationship with the market. In 2019, it was listed fully furnished at R110 million. By 2021, the asking price had dropped to R64.8 million, a 45% haircut in just two years. Now, in 2026, it’s resurfaced once again, this time at R78 million. The gardens are dotted with marble and bronze fountains and statues imported from France and Argentina, inspired by Russia’s Peterhof Palace. The terraced gardens alone took 5 years to create. The idea of levels was to maximise the views. Rock was blasted with dynamite, and 30,000 tons of soil were brought in to create layered levels that maximise the views. The main bedroom is just under 200m2. Basically an apartment😅 I’m always fascinated by ultra-grand mansions with in-house bowling alleys. Are these ever actually used?
