Nothing beats knowing how people feel about Rad Future. If someone’s work moves you: art, writing, music, videos, whatever, tell them. Those messages are rocket fuel. Please never stop letting creators know you see them and appreciate what they do. It matters more than you know ❤️

5) I read 'Rad Future' by nuclear influencer-activist @isabelleboemeke (@isodope) A fun read that presents a comprehensive and cogent case for fission-based nuclear electricity generation and all its myriad benefits for the world Goes into just the right level of detail on the science, history, and data to support her case While I am naturally already receptive to the message (indeed she gives a nice little shoutout to us crypto-bros), I like that she largely addresses the book to the skeptics and does so in a level-headed way without becoming dogmatic or leaning on theoretical future breakthroughs like fusion reactors Great book for anyone that wants to know the quick and dirty of how to support the nuclear space more broadly. Indeed, it was great reading about the recent progress and vibe shift at the end of the book Recommend

@AtomicAstrid Really depressing to see what it should've happened.

This is just depressing. The feeling that this should invoke is sadness and a commitment to work harder to change this, not some sort of intra-community snark. Like, this is bad for the planet. Great for solar for sure, but the goal isn't to deploy the most panels, it's to decarbonize entirely.
AukeHoekstra@AukeHoekstra

Interesting new paper documents clearly how the IAEA has been overestimating the growth of nuclear time and time again. It's the inverse of what I've documented for solar and batteries. doi.org/10.1016/j.erss…

Children are born staring reverently at bulldozers, and yet we’re supposed to believe mankind was meant to preserve neighborhood character?

@ShackelWill and it's like, how much energy did Australia generate from coal, Chris? Isn't that like the main issue here?

Over half of the world’s nuclear power plants closed between 2024 and 2025 according to Australia’s Energy Minister. News to me.

The Trump admin has a goal to add 300 GW of nuclear capacity. McKinsey estimates that the fuel cycle alone (i.e., just providing the fuel for the reactors) would require an investment of $105 billion to $170 billion. Article link in reply. The breakdown is: $15 to $20 billion for uranium mining and milling $30 to $45 billion for conversion (converting U3O8 to UF6) $30 to $40 billion for enrichment $10 to $20 billion for fabrication $20 to $45 billion for reprocessing

This is my new favorite conspiracy theory!!

@zanehkoch My dad is 100 and was a nuclear engineer for 60 years. I showed him the thread and he said, "This was discovered at Oak Ridge National Laboratory a long time ago [1950s], and it was deliberately repressed because it didn't fit with the narratives about radiation."

Oh so we're all about being lean in nuclear now, and yet we sniff at a 4 person team being given $25 billion, I see how it is
