@SchleifTim Sadly true: when I was an undergrad, I once spent hours scouring the periodic table looking for the element "R". Fun fact: it's called R from the German "radikal", well before Gomberg, but still meaning R• formally. So must be monovalent. Sorry.

@DalalSci I was a reluctant chemistry major who was not excited by the coursework, but working in Robert Gawley's lab (he was an asst prof then) changed my life for the better. As others have said - paying it back, paying it forward.

I chaired a search committee for an open Asst/Assoc Prof. We did 15 zoom pre-interviews. We had 7 questions that lasted 25 mins, w/ an opportunity for the candidates to ask questions at the end. Here are my tips from that experience, themed around song lyrics! Enjoy!
