After selling rupa, I made a rule to “follow curiosity”. I only say yes to things where my gut screams YES — even if I don’t understand why in the moment. And the first thing I said yes to was Zoya. We met the day after I sent out my final investor update for Rupa. I had lunch with @zoyagarg_ and her mom @ZarnaGarg, and we talked way too long about our very similar approaches to life and work. (Go read their story — tl/dr when Zoya was 16, she convinced Zarna, her 45 yr old Indian stay at home mom, to start a career in comedy. 6 years and an insane amount of hustle later — Zarna is one of the most famous and fastest rising comedians of all time.) I knew this girl was special the moment I met her. What teenager double majors in Computer Science & Classics at Stanford while also working full time running the family comedy business traveling 50% of the year, balancing getting a NY Times bestseller with an internship at Apple? 😅 It was clear she was not just “zarna’s daughter” — she was the reason their comedy business even existed. So when she asked me to mentor her, I said yes. Every Sunday since then, Zoya has come up to San Francisco and we go on a long walk and talk about life. She claims I am her mentor but for me it’s just so fun. Being around crazy ambitious growth minded people doing great things. And helping her avoid some of the mistakes I’ve made. 😅 The first discussion we had was about whether she should start an AI company or keep building the comedy business. I told her to do whatever she can obsess over and become world class at. Today — I got to watch her graduate from Stanford. Exactly 10 years after I graduated here! Tomorrow — she starts full-time building the comedy business (and incorporating her computer science degree of course 😉). I have absolutely no idea why our paths crossed or what great things will happen in the future because of this — but I know it will. Sometimes life doesn’t need to be so planned out. Just trust that it’ll all make sense looking backwards. Follow curiosity.

As an entrepreneur and father of 3 - my hope is that my kids follow their passion and create a business around that as they grow up. I have a running list of things that I WISH were taught in schools as part of a master curriculum. These are things I will teach them because schools will likely not.
