That's right. What I keep being reminded of over and over again on this site is that men who watch porn literally don't see the women and girls they are jacking off to as actual human beings x.com/PaulaSeeksTrut…
Paula@PaulaSeeksTruth

@MeghanEMurphy The fact that so many people fail to realize this is evidence that porn is cognitive kryptonite. They don’t even see the difference between imaginary and real - or they don’t care. If they blame women, they think this absolves them of any responsibility. Childish.

Let me explain this: Having thoughts in your head is fine. Even bad, dirty, perverted, sexy thoughts. Acting them out on humans is a completely different thing. This is the difference between fantasy books (even perverted ones) and porn. x.com/CarlosC6121841…

@MeghanEMurphy Es porno.

One on hand, last time I was in BC, even groceries seemed unaffordable—like, produce and red meat seemed out of reach. I can't even imagine what I would eat if I lived in Vancouver, still. On the other, I am amazed at how many younger millennials/older Gen Zs I hear complaining about being "broke" when they make about four times as much money as I do and are also driving a brand new vehicle and wearing crazy expensive designer clothes and going on vacations. Yes, food prices are out of control, and no I don't judge people for ordering from Doordash or eating out. I definitely feel like the people lecturing others about "saving money" and packing sandwiches with toxic, processed meat in them for lunch are probably quite well off at this point and don't really understand or remember what it's like to be broke, but also... Why do all the younger generations feel so entitled to vacations and owning new cars and houses? I never expected to own a house in my life. I didn't even get a driver's license until I was in my late 30s because I couldn't afford to buy a vehicle for most of my adult life (Which was honestly fine—I lived in Vancouver my whole life and you don't really "need" a vehicle there. I walked, took transit, taxis, etc). Then I bought a truck for like $1300 (it's great). I didn't go on vacations, again, till maybe my mid-30s? I was in school and working several jobs at a time for much of my adult life, so that was never an option. I think I'm a bit confused about how so many people in their 20s and early 30s are saying they can't afford to have kids, for example, when they own a condo in the city, go to fancy pilates classes four times a week that cost an arm and a leg, and drive a new hybrid. I think that, yes, inflation is crazy and the Covid scam screwed Canadians and the Canadian economy, but I also think that part of what's happened is that people's standards changed... It's now normal to eat out a lot, order everything for delivery online, have the newest, trendiest clothes, go on vacations regularly, etc. That wasn't how I operated in my 20s... It wasn't how my parents operated either. We almost never ate out when I was a kid, and when we did it was White Spot. We didn't go on vacations. We went camping. We always had an old, crappy vehicle (but it worked). We certainly never owned a house. I realize it is tiresome to hear olds complaining about the youth, and talking about how much different and better they were or it was when they were younger, but it does seem as though norms changed, no? Perhaps I'm remembering all this differently because I grew up working class, and we're responding to middle class people? x.com/facetedcarapac…

I don't identify as a "creator," so my frustration is less rooted in "I'm creating good content on social media and it's not getting the engagement I feel it deserves," (I really don't even particularly like the concept of "content" and "content creators"... like.... "creating content" for what? To what end? What is its purpose?) than it is in the fact that: 1) It's making the site shitty and boring 2) Because those of us who are here to share our work and ideas and engage with the work and ideas of other actual real people we are interested in can't. I feel like we're being disappeared to boost fake accounts posting crap for clicks. I don't know. Social media kind of feels a bit over in general, these days. Perhaps the result of that will be something positive? x.com/AmericaPapaBea…

Psychologists have quantified the problem in the field, whereas other fields have not. Being more aware of the philosophical purpose of science (to reduce bias--not eliminate), they are more aware of this problem than many other fields. Conversely, the public draws the wrong conclusion about the field relative to other fields.

@DoctorPerin On what level? P-hacking isnt exclusive to psychology. But on a very basic level, studies are not replicable which is necessary for a scientific finding to be scientific

Knowing how to prepare a meal for yourself from raw ingredients is one of the most necessary and basic skills a person must learn. I can't believe people are throwing tantrums over being expected to do it.

@MeghanEMurphy Its only interesting if theres something interesting in the world Plus people are petty and will block for no reason @katrosenfield and @LouPerez blocked me for politely disagreeing with one of their posts Then there's algorithm shenanigans that limit your reach unless you pay

This platform used to be so fun. I feel like now I'm just seeing the same tweets over and over again, day in day out. Most of the time from accounts I'm not even sure are real. Nothing new, nothing interesting. I'm afraid monetizing ruined things... For those of us who enjoy tweeting, it's become a bit pointless, because unless you think in terms of engagement (monetization), which I tend not to, your tweets go nowhere and no one sees them... It's not just X, either... It's all of social media. It all just feels so... dull...

I think people are generally Not Okay because you used to see a hot photo of a college girl in a bikini with the caption "she's so hot" and now the caption is like "just imagine all the guys she's stringing along while some disgusting old oligarch flies her to Miami."
