The health system in the country is bleeding. Rather than allow more young qualified, and eager hands, Unilorin and/or MDCN are holding us back for no just cause.

Some among us are fighting shame, self-doubt, depression and worst still suicidal thoughts. It ought to be a right but it is now a plea. Regardless, we are at the bottom of the food chain and we are only begging for a chance to survive.

PREDICTIONS By now, you would think that authorities would have responded to us with an assurance while taking accountability for stalling our lives. You would think that compensations would be discussed e.g. since house job is the next phase for you,

we respectfully call on the authorities to provide certainty and resolve this matter urgently.

Our concern is simple: we need a clear, definite induction date, not further vague timelines. For clarity, the merger rumour did not come from MDCN; it has been circulating within the University community itself. Having completed all requirements after 8–10 years of training,

We, the 44 affected MBBS graduates of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, note the school’s press release. However, for over 6 months we have only received repeated assurances — first a 4–6 week promise, then a January date — none fulfilled.

Why is there no date yet for 2nd batch induction at Unilorin 6months after completion of exams where as other schools have been inducted while surpassing their quota. What's the plan? @MDCNOfficial What's the plan? @UnilorinNGR

I’m almost speechless, at a time when we should fight for young doctors, we subject them to all types of terrible treatments. I hope the authorities will take a look at this and find solutions to this ASAP because the junior classes are looking at this and they are panicking already. This is not the COHS that we left and I wonder what exactly is happening to the once excellent school that trained us.

I hope @DrTunjiAlausa will deploy his might as the Minister of @NigEducation to wade into the crisis, and free the innocent graduates from the grip of @UnilorinNGR

The instructive thing about this tweet is that a healthcare worker saying she won't work beyond her job description/limits got more reactions from Nigerians that the death of a healthworker due to Lassa fever in the line of duty. The tweet is proving Itself in realtime. Often coming from the same people who would come for her head if she works beyond her limits, gets exhausted, and makes a mistake. You cannot expect healthcare workers to make sacrifices that you are too afraid to demand from your leaders, or make yourself.

Dear Mr. Oseni Rufai, I am writing as a concerned parent of one of the 25 University of Ilorin MBBS graduates who completed their medical training in August and had their results released in September. These 25 graduates were fully deserving of induction with the first batch, but were not included due to the 150-student quota. Alongside my child are 19 other graduates who wrote their resits after the first batch. Together, these 44 young doctors were supposed to be inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria following the first induction held on November 14. They were promised that their induction would take place within 4 to 6 weeks after the resits. It has now been well over two months, and there has been no communication or timeline regarding when these graduates will finally be inducted. Rumors have even suggested that they may have to wait until the next set of graduates, which could be in about 10 months from now. These 44 young doctors have devoted years of their lives to rigorous training, enduring long hours, immense pressure, and personal sacrifices. They are ready and eager to serve Nigeria, yet this prolonged delay prevents them from contributing to a healthcare system that urgently needs their skills. Nigeria continues to face a critical shortage of medical professionals. Other institutions, such as the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, have exceeded their induction quotas by over 200 graduates to ensure timely deployment into the healthcare system. The delay in Ilorin is not only unfair to these graduates but also deprives the public of much-needed medical services. We appeal to your newsroom to investigate and highlight this matter. Public attention could urge the MDCN and University of Ilorin to act promptly, ensuring that these 44 graduates are inducted without further delay. Their induction is not just a personal milestone; it is a crucial step in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system at a time when every doctor counts.

Have in mind that there's been no communication from the school, no apology and no explanations. Also note that UNN inducted at least 200 more than their quota same with several other schools, while the MDCN is delaying just 44 of our classmates from ilorin.

And in between all these, we’ve had several meetings with the provost which yielded almost nothing until after the induction, we met with him again and he promised our induction date would be within 6-8 weeks after the 1st batch induction.
