Something I think this also contributed to is how the world felt like it already existed prior to our arrival. *We* didn't start the campaign in Outland or Northrend, but our factions did! Nowadays, it feels like things only start right when our player character arrives.

Something I really love about older xpacs are the little racial outposts scattered across the world. They allowed for small race stories in otherwise unrelated zones, and with how many side quest opportunities modern WoW has, it'd be the perfect zone design to bring back in TLT.
