@SpeechUnion Didn't the UK study Australia's implementation of this? The kids find work arounds it's fucking useless. A great way to waste tax payer money and give more data on yourself to companies that will eventually lose it to cyber crime.

Why is Sir Keir Starmer’s Government set to ban under-16s from accessing 10 major social media platforms — including X — but not left-wing platforms like Bluesky? Since coming to power, this Government has been openly hostile to X, a forum for debate that prides itself on free speech. Ministers have even floated the idea of blocking UK citizens’ access to the platform altogether. Starmer can no longer pretend this is solely about protecting children.

@TopherField 100% this!! And it's always the same people that have grand plans where the money should go, how they could change the world and that it should be taxed more.

The world now has a US Dollar Trillionaire for the first time ever, and lots of people are losing their minds about it. The irony of people using Musks X platform to literally TEACH people how to 'properly hate him' is spectacular. Question: how many of his Trillion dollars did he 'take'? How many did he 'make'? This distinction matters, because it cuts to the heart of the 'politics of envy', socialism. People imagine that Musk 'having' a trillion dollars means theres a trillion dollars less for the rest of us to share. They believe he 'took' that money. But he didn't. He MADE that money. (Or more correctly he MADE the VALUE that we measure in money thanks to stock markets setting a cash price on that value.) There isn't a trillion less in circulation. There isn't a single mother buying nappies with pennies because Musk hoarded all the dollars. Musk MADE that money, that wealth, that value. It didn't exist. Then Musk did Musk things. Now there's a few trillion in value (combined in all his businesses) that didn't exist before, and he's managed to hold on to a trillion of the value he's created so far. The rest of it? Made other people rich. So not only is Musk NOT the cause of other people's poverty, he is in fact a leading cause of other people's wealth. But more than that, he's made life better even for those who are NOT shareholders. Why do people use the services his companies offer? Because they like that offer better than the other offers. Every purchase is a 'thankyou'. But most of all, Musk has created value even for people who pay him NOTHING... like most of the people hating on him via the X platform right now. Musk has made your life better, not worse. If that reality hurts your feelings then you're the problem, not him.

@GregMarSci What a hateful post. Anyone who donates their money to a good cause is making the community/country/world a better place. You ripping on someone because they are not aligned politically with you is being a cunt.

Gina Rinhart is worth $35-$40 BILLION Her donation to build 200 houses for veterans is fantastic & will cost $200 million This is 0.5% of her worth. Probably spends more on lunch. Also tax deductible so probably costs her nothing in real terms Stop thinking she cares about you

@Commoncents21 @VictoriaPolice It's absolutely disgusting that you would suggest something that is done for comedy be reported to the police. What a waste of money and resources but I guess you're a Labor supporter and you don't care about that.

Three Australian politicians are currently complaining about misogyny & sexism. But - @JacintaAllanMP, the Victorian Labor premier, has men in women’s prisons, school girls not drinking water and women punished for not accepting men as women. @AlboMP, the Australian prime minister, has called the destruction of women’s rights a “culture war”, ignoring pleas to ensure women have rights & protections in federal legislation. @JuliaGillard, during her time as the first women prime minister, removed the definition of women from war, igniting the “culture war”. Calling out misogyny & sexism when it impacts you while ignoring Australian women & girls who are experiencing ideological & institutional misogyny & sexism on a daily basis is not a good look and it simply highlights the hypocrisy. It confirms our suspicion that you only care about yourselves. If you’re going to cry misogyny & sexism, first make sure that you’re not a perpetrator of it.

@RennickGBR I think the issue is that no one understands economics as well as @RennickGBR The only positive is that the streaming services must produce Aussie content now. So that's a win.

“Netflix posted $1.47 billion in revenue in Australia in 2025, $1.35 billion of which was sent overseas as “distribution fees” to its parent entities. After its offshore fees, Netflix Australia had $119 million in revenue and $20 million in profit. It paid $16 million in income tax and paid a dividend of $41 million. This allows them to transfer vast amounts of money abroad, very little of which is taxable in Australia. Netflix had an effective local profit margin of 1.4 per cent of its total Australian revenue. “A distribution fee is paid by the company under this agreement, and the operating margin retained by the company is an arm’s length return in accordance with the Netflix Group’s transfer pricing policy,” the accounts say. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Netflix.” •••••••••••••• Globalists often talk about tariffs and how bad they are for free trade, but you rarely hear them complain about reverse tariffs whereby multinational companies can send profits offshore at tax rates much lower than onshore tax rates. Netflix has a local operating profit margin of 1.4% while their worldwide operating profit (see accounts in comments) was 28%. Multinationals get away with shifting so much money offshore because of our tax treaties allow them by setting withholding tax rates well below the onshore company tax rate. For example the withholding tax on royalties paid to the U.S. is just 5%. (See link below) Netflix can save 25% in every dollar it transfers offshore. So 25 cents on $1.35 billion transferred offshore is $338 million in lost company tax to Australia. To be fair to Netflix, some of the fees paid offshore should be offset by production costs but not at rate of 98.6% in the dollar. I.e 1.4% margin. Peoplefirstparty.au is the only party that understands transfer pricing. We will apply a 25% withholding tax on all offshore payments that exceed the operating profit ratio of its worldwide entity.
