I've been telling everyone - this is the best piece of meat industry reform legislation I've ever seen. Dream stuff.
I'm really shocked/excited that they included my idea to limit Big Meat to only one line of protein too.

@faraz_r_khan One reason is that we've allowed monopolies to grow throughout our food system.
I highly recommend Barons by @AustinFrerick, specifically chapter five for berries.

If you care about the food system, Barons by @AustinFrerick has my highest recommendation. Clearly written & incredibly well-researched (~1000 citations), it documents the "barons" of seven food sectors & how they've twisted them for their own profit, at the public's expense.

Dems introduced a bill that could break up JBS, the world's biggest meat processing company.
I had a great convo with @AustinFrerick a while ago about JBS' sordid history of bribing Brazilian officials and other crimes — and how US gov enabled them. levernews.com/the-lunch-meat…

It's really telling that when agribusiness groups like @mn_agrigrowth attack their critics, they resort to calling them "anti-agriculture." No one's anti-agriculture -- we all have to/like to eat!
Also, lol at calling someone a "non-mainstream" activist.

@KennyTorrella @mn_agrigrowth The "non-mainstream activist" and "flat-earther" bits legit made me lolz when I read it.

@rrpre @EOckerman For me with food supply chains, concentrated one become expense and fragile -- and they also let you engage in more exploitive behavior that is easier to hide (see Dricsoll's).
They also make meh tasting food as that food is engineered for durability, not taste.

@rrpre @EOckerman I'm hesitant to pull too much from NYC, since it's an island city and essentially a city-state.
That said, if the debates is on lower prices, then this really isn't a supply chain question - it's about subsidies. America has chosen to subsidized ethanol but not produce.

Last month @EOckerman and I hosted the second edition of the Supply Chain Book Club featuring a dynamic group of capitalists, communists, and centrists. We greatly enjoyed Barons by @AustinFrerick. Next month we will discuss mining.

"What I’ve realized is the farm bill doesn’t even care about them. For every dollar Americans spend at the store, farmers in America get $0.14, the least amount ever recorded in American history. Once you know this, you realize the farm bill is designed for Cargill, for Pepsi, it’s not designed for farmers." barnraisingmedia.com/what-if-big-ag…

"The Land Report just came out with a Top 100 ranking of who owns the most land in America. The Walmart family now owns more land in America than all the farmland owned by black farmers combined." barnraisingmedia.com/what-if-big-ag…
