Really cool moment tonight postgame after VCU upset UNC. VCU head coach Phil Martelli Jr. made a point to shoutout the student reporters that made the trip. Lots of great stuff this time of year, but this was a really awesome, genuine exchange.

I get this argument, and I agree. The thing is... the US just hasn't had as much to celebrate. You can't pimp home runs without hitting the home run first, etc. The US has celebrated (Judge HR vs Mexico, for instance), there's just been very little to celebrate!

Still rooting for Team USA but damn… these games have been boring as hell to watch. Save me the “this is the American way to play the game” speech. As a former big leaguer you hear all the time at nauseam… we play a kid’s game. Well damn… act like it. Have some fun. Celebrate these moments. The DR, Venezuela, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico… those boys are playing with real juice and you can feel it through the TV. Right now Team USA look dry as hell. I’m talking like somebody just ate a whole pack of saltine crackers in the desert with no water in sight. Still rocking with the boys… but somebody please bring that Adam Jones 2017 energy. 🇺🇸⚾️

@edthesportsfan I completely agree, but USA hasn't really flamed out in WBC since 2013 2017: USA wins 2020: Covid 2023: USA comes in second to Ohtani-led Japan We haven't had an existential-crisis moment like this for USA Baseball in a minute. But with you on need for accountability now

@AustinGreen44 Hear that, we live in an idea of American exceptionalism. It’s why USMNT gets derided so much compared to USWNT/USAB expectations. My point is, I believe expectation is that USA should win WBC every time, but if they don’t, there’s no accountability, even if it’s “our” sport.

This isn't USA Basketball, USWNT/USMNT or USA Hockey. Can't imagine anyone is taking USA Baseball that seriously, especially within USA Baseball. Why? Because if USA loses in WBC, no one—fans especially—holds them accountable. If USA Basketball loses. Heads roll. Why is that?

Wait, you can’t be serious. This is an absolutely disastrous look for USA Baseball. How does the manager not know the tiebreaker rules and how does not one person on the umteen-sized support staff not tell him that the United States still needed to win this game? DISASTER
