Young men believe that manhood involves strength, responsibility, leadership and sacrifice. Society preaches that there are no masculine virtues, or even that they are vices. We need to recover these virtues -- and to create pathways for young men to cultivate and express them.

Taken together, this entails prioritizing the national interest—that is, the interests of citizens—and securing the conditions for the common good to be realized. By @EWErickson’s own account of the positions the modern Democratic Party would refuse to applaud, one can see how far the party has drifted beyond the boundaries of biblical, political, and moral legitimacy. The Republican Party has its own defects and inconsistencies, but the asymmetry in fundamental priorities is too stark to ignore. This is not about conservative versus liberal; it is about what is biblical versus what is unbiblical and therefore incompatible with the formation of sound political communities.

Christian ethics does not start with "what works," but with "what is." Christian ethics is grounded first in ontology and only then expressed in practice. Being precedes doing, and the givenness of reality establishes the horizon within which moral action operates.

Fathers uniquely introduce risk-taking, adventure, pushing boundaries, and a sense of challenge into their children’s lives.

The most effective way to keep a man from ever going to prison, no matter what, ever, in American history, is (drumroll), a good father. Period. Marriage & fatherhood have to be at the center of every discussion about crime prevention. Muslims are doing this in Philly! It works!
