Exclusive The Halifax Panthers and new owner Martin Buchan have been given the green light for the club to return to the Championship for the 2026 Rugby League season. The club was placed into compulsory liquidation in a High Court hearing last month. With Halifax’s fixtures against the Sheffield Eagles and Barrow Raiders postponed. New owner Martin Buchan has agreed to honour all contracts of the remaining players with the restructured Halifax expected to take to the field against the London Broncos next Sunday. This is great news for the Halifax Rugby League community.

Some pathetic fans trying to cause trouble in the corner, a few from Widnes over the ad boards momentarily, a few pint pots thrown towards them from Warrington, now a few thrown back. Just sad all round. Stewards just about containing it.

Warrington 50 Widnes 12 FT. Pretty sobering night for Widnes just a week out from the season starting. Some good signs for Warrington's youngster, especially Hayes & Irwin. Not sure I can think of any positives for Widnes - can get 4 1-week loans from Super League for next week?

@jdgsport But in each pool, all teams have an equal task. In the football format, some teams go through with worse results than others who don't. I'd rather see 3 pool games than 2.

Seeing the Rugby League World Cup schedule being announced well in advance (in rugby league terms at least) ...then reading up on the format where you're in a group with two other teams, whom you don't actually play.
