We’ve set up a new Fuel Supply Taskforce, led by Anthea Harris. Working with states and territories, the taskforce will make sure fuel gets where it’s needed most. It will bring together experts and industry to protect our fuel supply, and make sure we have the latest information on supply and demand.

In a globalised world, a fair deal for consumers depends on a level playing field for Aussie businesses. That means backing local businesses to compete and grow. That’s what I spoke about this morning at the AADA breakfast.

The evidence is clear. Phonics works. Three years ago in NSW 55% of students who did the Yesr 1 Phonics Check were considered on track. Last year that jumped to 64%. That’s a big jump in three years. From about one in two, to nearly two thirds on track. In just three years. This shows the importance of the reforms that are happening in NSW and that we are rolling out across the country. This year, for the first time, every State and Territory will roll out the Year 1 Phonics Check.

If there’s one, bleedingly obvious thing for the government to do about our national housing challenge, it’s this.

We know Australians are concerned about petrol and diesel prices and supply and that’s why we are working with industry and regulators to make sure there’s enough fuel and that the suppliers and retailers aren’t doing the wrong thing by people.

It was great to catch up with these Olympic legends Cooper Woods, Danielle Scott, Alisa Camplin and Ian Chesterman. Cooper and Danielle did Australia proud at the recent Winter Olympics and are an example to the next generation of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, determination and pure grit. Congratulations Cooper and Danielle!

BREAKING: Labor is putting petrol companies on notice with bigger penalties for misconduct and more scrutiny and surveillance, and shoring up fuel supply. Labor won’t cop big fuel corporates and servos treating Australians like mugs. That's why we're doubling penalties for misleading conduct - now up to $100M - ramping up surveillance of suspicious price spikes, and improving coordination of fuel deliveries, especially in regional areas. Australia is not immune to global economic uncertainty, but the industry is on notice not to exploit it, and that's why these measures will help make sure you are getting fair prices for fuel.

More money in your pocket for retirement.

We need more doctors and we need more GPs. That’s why from today, we’ve opened up applications for more universities to train more doctors across the country. This is on top of the extra places we have already announced. When fully rolled out, this will mean 1,800 more medical places at uni than before we were elected. We’re delivering three times the number of new medical places than the Coalition, in half the time.

Education opens the doors of opportunity. That’s why we’re upgrading schools across the country, including here in Dulwich Hill with the new Rosalie Learning Centre at St Maroun’s. Because no matter where you live, every young Australian deserves the best start in life.
