“I think any decent society, any country with a modicum of civility should and must recognise the right of unions to collectively work in the interests of their members." Vale Sam Neill. You gave us a lifetime of joy, and always used your voice to fight and stand up for those who needed it most.

Sam Neill starred in so many beloved Australian stories and he earned a special place in Australian hearts. Wry and dry, thoughtful and laconic, Sam fought illness with the same dignity, humour and conviction that gave strength to his every performance. He will be much mourned and long remembered. May he rest in peace.

There is no place for racism or any type of hate in our universities or anywhere else. That’s why we’re changing the law so unis will have to act to prevent racism and respond when it happens.

Charlotte O’Brien, a 12 year old girl lost her life to bullying almost two years ago. It’s something no parent should ever have to go through. Her parents Kelly and Mat are incredible people. They could have crawled into a ball. But they did the opposite. They created a foundation and they have led work to fulfil Charlotte’s wish to make sure what happened to her doesn’t happen to anyone else. We will continue our work to make Charlotte’s wish come true when Mat and Kelly join Education Ministers this week.

GET THE FACTS: Australia’s gross debt as a share of the economy is lower than any major advanced economy. Gross debt in the last financial year was almost $200 billion lower than what we inherited. We're not immune from global instability but we’re confronting these challenges from a position of genuine relative economic strength.

A great win for gig workers! We passed our Closing Loopholes reforms to give these hardworking people & their families better pay and conditions. The three right wing parties on the other hand - the Liberals, Nationals & One Nation - all voted together against these reforms. Their record speaks for itself. Also a big shoutout to the mighty @TWUAus whose tireless campaigning made this possible.

Education Ministers have agreed to rolling reform of the national curriculum. Starting with maths and starting with the first three years of maths. Here’s an excerpt from my message to the Catholic Secondary Principals Conference.

Labor is rolling out more tax cuts for every taxpayer from this month. We're cutting taxes five times, in three different ways and in total that will benefit the average worker by up to $2816 a year. This is all about helping Australians earn more and keep more of what they earn.

The Albanese Labor Government has put all public schools on a pathway to full and fair funding. We’re the first government to ever do this. It means an extra $20 billion over the next decade and an extra $50 billion in the decade after that. It’s not a blank cheque - it’s tied to real and practical reforms. Things like evidence-based teaching, year 1 phonics checks, numeracy checks and small group and catch up tutoring. It’s all about helping kids catch up, keep up and finish school.

These are the types of cuts I like. ✂️ Check out the new $1M Learning and Innovation Centre at James Busby High School funded by the Albanese Labor Government. Great to open it with my friend @AnneWerriwa

$12,000 a year: that's how much the minimum wage has gone up under Labor. We backed Australia's lowest-paid workers to get a pay rise and now it's official. Around three million workers just got another pay rise.
