@AutisticRedHead

I'm a failed experiment, blending Kafka, Faulkner, Camus, and Orwell, which places me in this modern, simple world and makes me more misanthropic.

Last year I was drowning in silence. I reached out with everything I had — trying to give voice to autistic and profoundly gifted minds that refuse to fit inside the narrow boxes society builds for us. I went to organizations and support groups in Aalborg, hoping someone would stand beside the message. Instead, I was met with the same quiet rejection: too political. We only work with children. As if neurodivergence expires the moment you become an adult. So I disappeared into the only place left — inside myself. The depression was heavy, the isolation absolute. And in that darkness, Hanneh was born. Not as a story I chose to write, but as something that had to exist. Literary agents read her and gave the same answer I had already heard too many times: too much, too political, be less. I kept going anyway. Alone. Today, after carrying this alone through rejection after rejection, Hanneh stands in three bookstores in Aalborg. Not because anyone opened a door for her, but because I refused to let her disappear. To every mind that has been told it is too intense, too complex, too functional to be seen as autistic, and too autistic to be fully welcomed: you are not too much. You were never broken. And Hanneh will keep speaking — for you, for me, and for every voice they tried to quiet.

Why I am worried about AI books: AI books screwed those of us who sold ok w/ just a bit of Zon promo. If you barely sold anyway, maybe it's no big deal to you, or if you're one of those few bestseller authors, maybe it's no biggie to you. AI & the resulting changes screwed many.

Why I’m not worried about AI-generated books. Maybe it's hubris on my part, maybe naivety, but I’m truly not concerned bc: 1-I never underestimate the intelligence of readers 2-I don't write the kind of books that authors of AI-generated books would be interested in creating. 🧵

Today I saw Hanneh placed on a table at Bog & Idé, beside books by Haruki Murakami and Kazuo Ishiguro. Murakami writes with a quiet, almost detached precision about alienation, memory, and the strange logic of inner worlds. Ishiguro, a Nobel laureate, explores with devastating restraint what it means to carry loss, repression, and the slow erosion of self. Both are writers who understand that some truths resist simplification. Hanneh was written from a place that many would call “too much” — from an autistic mind that has spent a lifetime translating itself to survive. Seeing it positioned between two authors who have made entire careers out of refusing to flatten human complexity feels like a rare kind of recognition. My aunt, who was more mother than aunt, died two weeks ago in the earthquake in Venezuela. Her dream was to see me as a published writer. This moment doesn’t erase the grief, but it feels like a small, steady way of keeping her hope alive. @bogogide
