“Moonrise on Jacqueline Sue,” a physical edition of 25. Moonrise on Jacqueline Sue is a long exposure photograph taken in September, 2024 in Mesquite, Nevada. As the moon rose over the mountain ridge, lighting distant clouds and the desert valley, this creosote bush became the subject of focus, a spiny main character in the landscape. The creosote bush has great spiritual significance across the southwest US, symbolizing resilience, adaptability, survival, and the ability to thrive and create beauty in harsh, bleak environments. When you rub its leaves, it gives off the unforgettable scent of fresh rain, petrichor, a reminder of the promise of a new beginning. It’s one if my favorite plants in the desert, and always reminds me to nurture the flame of hope, even in the darkest of nights.  I named the piece after a beautiful and resilient woman in my life who had a battle with cancer this year, overcame it and is now in remission.
