@14JUN1995 LRB's close readings episodes with Mark Ford and Seamus Perry are great.

@saintsoftness ah well, fair enough. For this lay viewer it felt suboptimal. Other than the dedicated space for "St. Francis in the Desert."

@AutonomousKunst It's back set in the wall in the Frick after the renovation, but I enjoyed seeing it in the Met Breuer because it was so novel-- these things always lived in that mansion, so decontextualizing them actually made me look anew.

The dog in Fragonard's Progress of Love: look at this beautiful idiot! Look at the economy of strokes that render this as a dog in minimum gestural paint with black dots for eyes that somehow has a whole personality! It looks at you, the viewer, directly, unlike the figures.

@saintsoftness Just wonderful. They had these briefly at the old Met Breuer building and it really didn't feel like the proper setting. Hope this new home is a better fit.

It is a huge wall panel with a very tiny dog, a detail that you could miss if you weren't careful.

@JaredMPollen Strange of Sam Rutter to platform and edit both your (good!) review and the one you’re branding “anti-intellectual”? Think there is more to Perelmuter’s argument than that.

Freue mich schon 😀
