Nie ma żadnych danych faktograficznych na istnienie Maryi. Są dane na istnienie niejakiego Jehoszuy. Nikt sobie nie zaprzątał jednak zarejestrowaniem imienia jego matki, bo a) w Rzymie kobiety jako imiona nosiły numery plus „atczestwo” (np. Tulia) b) w związku z tym nikt sobie imionami Żydówek rejestrów nie zaprzątał. Nawet Św. Paweł w Liście do Galatów nie wspomina jej imienia. Mowa jest tylko o tym, że Jezus narodził się z niewiasty.
