Our own Birthe Steenberg, stresses the importance of #food sovereignity for the EU. "We need to look at the situation of EU #livestock more holistically… global population IS increasing and will need 40% more protein until 2050… We’re not able to defend ourselves if we don’t eat."

We cannot turn our farmers into villains and suffocate them with policies, said @DolorsMM 👉Ensuring that #livestock farming remains profitable and sustainble is essential for the future of our young farmers.

👉@FAO's ADG @ThanawatTiensin spoke at the Sustainable Livestock Intergroup meeting today. He shared that we need to stand up and make sure the voices of our farmers are heard. We cannot feed our population without #livestock farming.

MEP Benoît Cassart opened the meeting sharing that reducing emissions by reducing number of animals while importing food from other contries is not the way to go. 👉Investing in new technologies remains essential.

🚨🚜 BREAKING: MEPs pivotal vote validates EU farming community’s rightful concerns and mobilisation The result of the vote in the @Europarl_EN on the referral of the Mercosur Agreement to the ECJ clearly shows how divisive this agreement is. It also shows that the arguments put forward by the farming community, which just want fairness, have made sense to a lot of MEPs, across national and political lines. 🇪🇺 farmers and agri-cooperatives are the first to pay for geopolitical upheavals and unrest. Fair and balanced trade, coherent with internal policies needs to be a certainty, even in uncertain times. Trade policy cannot continue to reward lower standards while European farmers are asked to do more with less.
