I would like to thank the Honourable Rachel Notley, MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona and Alberta’s 17th Premier, for her many years of dedicated service to her constituents and to all Albertans. Serving as Premier is an extremely demanding job, and she served in that office with an honour and dignity reminiscent of her late father, another honourable and loyal Albertan and public servant. I wish Ms. Notley all the best in her future endeavours and whatever comes next for her and her family.

Inactive wells are not abandoned wells. It’s also hard to reclaim wells when the companies are being bankrupted by the fact they can’t drill. It’s cyclical. Leave Alberta oil alone and we’ll do what we’ve always done, Pay your way and your services from our 18 billion dollars in equalization payments. Let’s look at other oil industries in the world and let’s look at their reclamation percentages, then we can talk. Compare us to others and we are the most ethically sourced oil in the world. It’s still going to be drilled why not support your own countries industries. I guess you must like Russian or saudi oil more cause oil isn’t going anywhere.

Enough! Today, Alberta said NO to Minister Stephen Guilbeault’s ‘Clean Energy Regulations’. Our province has jurisdictional rights afforded to us under the constitution. The Supreme Court and Federal Court have already ruled on the matter. It’s time for the Trudeau government to stop ignoring the rule of law and start acting like a national government, working collaboratively with the provinces.
