The “I was blocked” line when democracy doesn't go someone's way is tiresome. Mum grew up in 1950s Catholic Ireland where hungry families were publicly shamed by priests for not donating enough that week. Candidates like this frighten her. It’s not the govt that’s out of touch.

To say I am disappointed that Maria Steen was denied the chance to go before the Irish electorate as a presidential candidate is an understatement. It is also proof that Ireland is not a democratic country no matter what you believe! The government pulled out all stops to ensure she didn’t get on the ballot.
