@crankynotions I lost trust (disillusioned?) in Western society with how they reported the Second Intifada. I still believe in the nuts and bolts politics of lobbying but from a sober realistic point of view that no one else will necessarily stick their nose out to help you.

I always noticed that you rarely saw the face of an Israeli in the newspapers. A soldier's boot, maybe. Or the silhouette of a Haredi person. But they would always show close-up pictures of Palestinian children. A subtle dehumanisation has been going on for years.

@crankynotions Even then news stories would imply Israel was partially to blame for the terrorist attacks. Very similar to the current coverage of Israel in Lebanon. Israel kills 4 in Lebanon...(4 paragraphs in)...the village was a stronghold of Hezzbolah.

Sometimes you know exactly why you were meant to be somewhere HFL interview in Springfield MA late last night and stayed overnight In morning went to daven at Chabad, and happens to the bar mitzvah of a certain Nochum Zalman. His great great grandfather was Nochum Zalman Gurevitch, a chossid who after the war lived in Melbourne I shared with him that some of my most vivid memories from when I learned there as a young boy was his namesake standing on shabbos for hours in front of the Aron Kodesh of the boys minyan and saying tehillim and davenning with tears You can imagine for a boy growing up in Hong Kong this was quite the sight Thirty years later, the circle continued

Watching people's reactions to the Iran War I wonder how many Americans view Foreign Policy thinking the U.S. is the protagonist when in fact it is a supporting character. I think this misconception creates a lot of misinformed opinions.

I grew up in west Michigan so I’m more than aware of how different regions treat snow. That said, this will likely be the biggest snow in nyc in a decade, and with the population, had they not put out a travel ban, it would’ve been really bad for people on the road. Each city is unique

@jewishmemequeen She also doesn't know if they start/end fasting until they spot the new moon at which point she texts her Jewish frum supervisor whether she's coming in the next day. She's actually jealous we have Yom Tov sheini b/c we can submit our vacation days in advance!

@jewishmemequeen My Muslim coworker explained how little sleep she gets as they fast during the day and have an elaborate nightly break-fast then the husband goes to Mosque for what I can approximate as "Selichos" then wake up in the early morning to eat before dawn.
